I always cringe over this but it may be necessary this year.

However, I'd like to see the Giants try Winn and/or Beck in the rotation first, see what they can provide in that role.
Just hard to expect a couple of rookies to come in and be #2 and #3 starters (if we include Harrison) especially in the playoffs if that's the goal

If we want to buy, we'll have to give up something that might sting a bit
We should probably try Harrison first, IMHO, assuming he's as ready as he can be. No cost that way.

But we are definitely in the hunt.

Just said above, tough to rely on a rookie to come in and be a #2 on a playoff team. They will for sure be looking at starters, even if they are rentals like maybe Stroman

You're right. At the time, ESPN Gameday showed a guy on second when Gorman walked, so I thought two were on then.
Well they were but he didn't put one of them there LOL

I'll take a #1 and 4 #5's at this point.

Good that we have some cap room.

I wonder if Cohen would be willing to dump Scherzer.

There's the old American stick-to-it-ness and perseverance we've grown to love and expect from @tzill

It never disappoints ...

After throwing eight shutout innings in Houston on May 2, DeSclafani had a 2.13 ERA. In eight starts since, he has worked about five innings per outing and posted a 6.31 ERA.

The Giants right now have just two reliable starters --- Logan Webb and Alex Cobb -- although they do expect to get Alex Wood back this weekend in Los Angeles.

Winn, Beck, Harrison and maybe Hjelli need a look see before we trade real pieces for a mediocre #3/#4 starter from a team that sucks.

Not sure Hjelle will get a look (unless the Giants are desperate). I wonder if Harrison won't get a look until late in the season. I think the Giants are managing his work load with that in mind.

Winn and Beck, as I already mentioned, should get a look before a trade is made. As you mention, the options are not that great right now. Stroman is having a nice season but how many teams are going to be in on hi? Lorenzen overcame a really bad start to the season to be posting good numbers this year but this is his first year he's looked decent as a starter. Feels like a Tyler Anderson situation.

More projections

We started 6-13. Since then, we've gone 30-19.

If we continue at the 30-19 pace for the rest of the year, even with the 6-13 start, we finish 94-68.
