Red Sox and Phillies didn't play last year or 2014. And the only reason they played in 2015 was because it was their year to play the NL East.

Huh. Well I'll be damned.

I remember from when I was a Red Sox fan (before they became Yankees Lite) that the Phillies were considered their natural rival and would have a home and away series regardless of which NL Division the AL East was playing. They've apparently changed all that up, probably because of the inter league games happening all throughout the year and the Astros joining the AL.

For whatever reason, the Phillies are considered to be the Red Sox's "natural rival" in the NL. They play every year. Not sure why all the games are this week.

It's not every year. The Braves and Phillies flip back and forth between the Red Sox and Blue Jays. Last year the Braves played the Red Sox, this year it was the Blue Jays. Last year the Phillies played the Blue Jays, this year was the Red Sox.
