Almost a quarter into the season and young Harper is leading MLB in OBP, SLG and OPS. Could this be the year?

Meantime, the Indians are leading fuckall. Could this be the first year in history that they finish in the basement of the AL Central?

I think I posted this in the other thread about Harper, but he ended the season last year hitting well (.298 AVG, 10 HR in his last 48 games), so if you combine that with this season, he's hitting .310 with a 23 HR and a .986 OPS in his last 86 games.

Crazy shit in no particular order:

  • Yankees on pace to win 91 games (A-Rod: face of the franchise)
  • Red Sox are actually worse than their record indicates
  • Since 7/21/14, The Thugs from KC are 76-41 - a 105 win/season pace over 117 games
  • Studies indicate that most White Sox fans are convicted felons
  • Houston 25-13, best team in the AL - What. The. Fuck.
  • Mets don't seem completely inept

Where he doesn't get hurt?

Maybe, but I was thinking could it be the year that he lives up to expectations. Granted, the season's still fresh, but he's doing both so far.

I don't think he's been injury prone as much as he's played stupid. He hasn't had continued nagging issues like other young players, he's just run into walls and shit. Maybe some maturity will keep him on the field?

Yep. Add those games to this year's and he's got a slash line of .310/.408/.577/.985 over the last 86 games. That's a pace of 43 HRs/162 games.

Thursday will be the 3rd time in the last month that Clayton Kershaw and Madison Bumgarner will face off.

In the previous two match ups, they've combined for:

27.1 Inn - 2.30 ERA - 0.92 WHIP - 1.17 K/9 - 8.0 K/BB

I'm thinking Thursday's contest might be a well-pitched one.

Not too many are calling Harper overrated anymore. Amazing that he is still younger than Kris Bryant.

How ironic it would be if he turned out to be the better player than Trout, like most expected, than most laughed at over the past couple years

You cannot argue that Trout's start to his career has been fucking amazing. Historic, even.

Who knows what either players' career will look like when they're over, but people were way too quick to write Harper off.

Appreciate the vote of confidence, but I will have to politely decline until the Wilpons no longer control the team.

I think part of his trouble last year was with Matt "I'm A Bald Dumbass Hothead" Williams benching Harper and calling him out publicly for not busting down the line 100% on an easy grounder...kinda dumb in my mind because Bryce was arguably playing the game TOO hard often in his short career (like going facefirst into a fence at full speed chasing a fly). Right after that, Harper got hurt on a headfirst slide, probably in an effort to show Williams that he was, in fact, a super gung ho guy. Harper did dog it a bit on the grounder, but he was at least running and it was an easy grounder to 2nd...plenty of guys don't bust it full speed on plays like that. Ortiz probably would have barely gotten out of the box before heading to the dugout.

Trout sucks, I prefer Haddock.
