Hmmm, I guess pitch counts aren't a thing anymore?

I keep waiting for the spell to break, but Krukow broke it down on morning radio. Pitchers get older, and lose their velocity, and some never figure out how to pitch effectively in a whole new way (Timmy). But many do. Cain is a talented veteran, who seems to have figured out how to get guys out with location and speed changes. That's all Maddux ever did (not that he's Maddux but you get the point).

So the question is...if the dude finished the year 10-9 with a 4.05 ERA....do you re-sign him? I suppose for a 2 year $20 mil type deal why not?

It's tough for some guys as well because sometimes it's just their fastball that loses it's juice, but all their offspeed remains the same, so basically guys are pitching at 1 speed and can't do anything about it. For Cain, there just wasn't much difference between his FB and offspeed from 2015-2016. This year there has been a little bit bigger spread. And then, as you've said, he's pitching differently. Not better per-say, because Cain hasn't been a "thrower" since 2006/2007, but he's adjusted.

I think you have to factor in how many innings he gets in/outing. 7 would be great to give the pen a rest, but 5 wears the others down.

So that Bryan Morris can come in?!?!?! Uh, Bochy, this game seems a bit close for him to pitch.

I'd be okay throwing out his disastrous start because he has pretty good stuff and it's not fair to judge a SSS.

His last three appearances have been good but I do want to see a few more of those before I dismiss his first two appearances. Those were absolutely awful.

It's a lot easier to take that giant Dodgers flag out there when we have a 6-1 lead.
