I think its interesting that Manning often gets overlooked as a potential cut. Seems kind of odd to me. Everyone seems to think he's the designated 7th dman, but what if you cut him and AMac is your 7th dman? Or maybe it rotates a little bit for a while? The more I read/watch, the more I think Sanheim has a decent shot at making the team and pushing Manning down to the Phantoms.

Agree with Bill on the forwards though. The more interesting part of the forwards is who is in the press box.
I think Manning earned a lot of points with the coaching staff with his tough play for us last season which is why he will always be considered for a spot with the big club until all the young guns are officially ready.

It's interesting here, as expected. Clearly there will be 2-3 veterans watching the games each night, only to be tossed in when there is an injury, healthy scratch or just a change in lines. The frontrunners for those spots should be guys like Read, Weise, MacDonald and Manning.

That said, if a number of guys like Patrick, Lindblom, Laughton, Leier or Sanheim make the team, the decision of who to bench on opening night becomes that much more difficult. They obviously won't have one of the younger guys make the squad just to watch games from above.

I am all for the best players making the roster but I don't see 3 rookie dmen starting the season together. A Mac would make a good #7, but if Manning is recovered from back surgery, I think he gets the nod over Sanheim. Sanheim gets called up and then stays. If Manning is not 100 % our 7 should be:

Orange Cone - 31 years old - 10th season
Gudas - 27 - 5th season
Ghost - 24 - 3rd season
Provy - 20 - 2nd season
Hagg - 22 - rookie
Morin - 22 - rookie
Sanheim - 21 - rookie.

This group is definitely better than last years Orange Cone, Gudas, Ghost, Provy, Manning, MDZ, Streit and Schultz.

I'll eat an entire shirt if Patrick isn't on the opening night roster.
There is no chance he doesn't get the first 9 games to prove he belongs. Even then, he will be here all season.

Agreed. And based on the past, Hextall hates the 9 game tryout. So I would say if he's in the lineup on opening night, he'll be here all season.

Based on the minutes they've been giving him, the guys they've been pairing him with consistently, I don't see any way he's not in the lineup.

Tonight's line up.

Meltzer thinks Morin/AMac will be in the lineup tomorrow. Same for Vecchione, Leier, Lindblom up front. I tend to agree.

I like the way these lines shake out with Gee on the wing.

Drop Read for Lindblom and I get goosebumps. Weise and Leier start the year in the press box, Read and Vecch to LHV. Vecch first call up. Trade Read or hope he gets claimed. Sanheim to LHV to start with a clear list of what he needs to work on, Manning starts as #7. Sanheim first call-up due to injury or AMac's poor play.

Great pass by Patrick and shot by Sanheim for our first goal tonight. An absolute laserbeam that beats Lundqvist high glove, off the bar. Tied 1-1 in the first period. A nice look at our future right there.

The second power play unit was looking pretty dangerous there. Couturier, Patrick, Konecny, Weal and Provorov.

That's a really young unit. Probably about 21 or 22 on average.

Sanheim again late in the second period gives us a 2-1 lead. This time, he crosses right in front of Lundqvist, picks up some loose change, kicks it to his blade and taps it behind the veteran.

Going to be really difficult to send him back to the minors now. He is making a serious case to stay.

For real though, I'd like to see MacDonald or Manning make that play. This kid should start over either of them.

Sanheim is playing a solid game tonight and w 2 goals. Does he make the big club guys? @Maverick426h are we doing the fantasy hockey this season?

Lol Referees not up to par yet. Patrick in the box after Staal clearly gets high sticked by his teammate.

Game tied after Neuvy makes a save and the rebound banks off of Hagg and just across the goal line. Just bad luck there.

Giroux and Voracek both getting their chances, but too many damn passes. One too many passes on a two on one and a two on zero, if you can believe that. Just thinking about this too much. Make the one pass and then fire it.
