I know it's best to put this to rest, BUT, I think every 3rd base coach in the league and this guy right here would have sent Pablo there. 2-outs, game winning situation, at home. Put the pressure on the defense, they are on the road and likely jittery. Ross had to make a play and he did

/end rant.

I don't think the play is hat defensible. Shallow RFer, slow runner, your team is hot, 2 outs...

I like Flan, and think that his aggressive style, as a whole, is good. But that call was bone-headed.

Generally I'd agree with you, but in this case the D-Backs needed to absolutely fall apart on that play for Pablo to score.

If we recreate that play 100 times, how many times does Pablo score? I think 5 percent of the time is being very generous. He was out by 5 miles.

If Belt gets a chance to hit there, how many times out of 100 does he get a hit? 20-25 percent?

I would say that more often than 5/100 times the ball trails up the line, short-hops the catcher, slips out of Ross's hand or is weak. Also, you are at home and you will get the last at-bat regardless. This team already showed that it will fight until the end.

Agree to disagree I guess.

I am not certain tz is still with us. I know he is spending a lot of time in the GDT at the other place.

Oh, I'm still here....

And I do NOT APPROVE of tonight's game. If we had just played defense, we win 4-3....

still and all, I'm going tomorrow and will do my best to post the GDT. Bum for the series and then off to the Whale's Vagina.

Well Schulman is an idiot! ;)

In a situation where the run wins you the game, I agree with the decision to send the runner about 99% of the time. I think the possible mistakes Schulman mentions, included bouncing a throw or airmailing it over the catcher's head, are FAR more likely to occur if it's a close play. I would love to see the replay, and view where Pablo was as Ross released the ball. Had he touched 3rd yet?

Again, I think the chances of Panda scoring were so low, you might as well give Belt the chance there. Just my take.

I agree 100% with your take, just thought it interesting that someone reasonably credible saw it another way.

:yo:

It's a fun debate. Can be argued both ways.

Of course, my argument is superior.

I hate to argue to fiercely on this point because, like I said yesterday, I like flan.

I just think, IN THAT SITUATION, he was wrong. Simple as that. Move on.

My thread still lives!!!

I understand completely the decision in a game to send a runner with 2 outs from second. What I don't understand is the decision to send Pablo Sandoval home from second on a short hit to Ross
