OF Tristen Lutz, Age 18, 6’3”, 215, Arlington, TX (MLB.com’s Jim Callis)
(#35, BA, #34 MLB.com)

Arlington Martin, represent! In recent years, Texas has drafted several young outfielders more noted for athleticism than baseball prowess. Lutz isn’t that type. Already filled out physically, he’s shown impressive power in wood-bat showcases and projects as a slugging right fielder, although he’s occupying center at present. Lutz is committed to the Longhorns but is expected to sign if drafted in Texas's range.

SS Jeter Downs, Miami Gardens, FL, Age 18, 5’11”, 180 (Jonathan Mayo, MLB.com)
(#54 BA, #37 MLB.com)

A young man named “Jeter.” Congratulations, you (you, the reader) are old. Downs has moved up draft boards with a terrific spring and has a good all-around set of tools. Baseball America expressed more concern about his ability to stay at short, but all reviewers love his feel for the game, both in the field and at the plate.

SS/3B Mark Vientos, Plantation, FL, Age 17, 6’4”, 190 (Eric Longerhagen, Fangraphs.com)
(#40 BA, #67 MLB.com)

Vientos won’t turn 18 until December. Nobody I’ve read thinks he’ll stick at short, but his arm is ample for third or right. Scouts are much more fond of his bat, especially his burgeoning power, to which Longerhagen applies the "monster" tag. He’s a poor runner.

I think of those seven guys mentioned by Scott Lucas, my personal preference order would be Lutz, Downs, Vientos, Carlson, Pearson, and Houck. Thompson doesn't interest me at all.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Hope she will be quickly on the mend.

Both my parents fell and broke their hip when. They hit their 80s. After dad passed away I got my mom one of those life call deals. When she fell the first time she did not have it and she sat on the floor for three hours before she got up enough Irish to crawl to the phone.
In the process of getting her one of those alert buttons. She's 85 and luckily didn't break anything.

Never expected much from him on this deal, was just another stab at a guy coming off injury and trying to catch lightning in a bottle. If he makes starts at the ML level for a 3rd of the season, I would be surprised

I'm so glad she did not break a hip or anything else. Those life alert deals will give you peace of mind.

One time I could not get through to my mom for hours and thought the worst (she lived in FL). I called the life alert operations center and they sent someone over to check on her. Good thing, she was down with a virus and they arranged with neighbors to get her to her doctor. That taught her to actually use the button.

Early observations:

(1) So good to see Beltre back in the lineup.
(2) Choo gets absolutely no respect on ball/strike calls.
(3) Hope Perez gets the same calls that Gonzalez is getting.

I cast my vote for keeping you and getting a Poster-to-be-Named later for both me and Crawler. ha ha

And yeah, 11 AM is a little much for a start time.

Through 3, very well pitched game by both pitchers. Two one-hitters to date.

There's the value of DDJ. Leads off with a double, steals 3rd, and scores on an INF out. 1-0 Rangers through 3+.

Perez will one day make a good middle relief pitcher who is trotted out there to face a batting order one time.

Perez will one day make a good middle relief pitcher who is trotted out there to face a batting order one time.

In the 5th. He made a perfect pitch, which turned into a bloop single to left, and was almost caught. Then a seeing eye grounder goes past EA. Hard hit single, yet no run. Rua (who's right at getting permanently on my shit list) screws a foul-pop-up, and yet Perez got a pop-up to Choo for the 1st out. K's the pitcher, for out 2. Routine FO to left for the 3rd out.

Bottom line, through 5, no runs, 1 W/5K's. Too many pitches, give ya that. But overall, I'll take this. Really, won't you? And I know where you're coming from, but just for today, this is a damn nice outing IMO.
