Sox and the Dodgers on MLB right now. Sox are ripping the new Dodger pitcher from Japan but doing it with good base running - Sac flies - infield hits - advancing bases on outfield throws. I like it.

Sox cut 12:

The most notable, yet expected cuts were OF Óscar Colás, LHP Ky Bush, and C Edgar Quero. The latter two were part of the trade last year with the Angels for Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo López, near the end of the trade deadline. Neither of these players were expected to make the cut, so this is more FYI than anything.

Three of the five mentioned in this article played a positive role in today's 1-1 tie against the Friars.

-Nicky Lopez went 1-2 and scored the loan run. Nicky is currently batting .400 this Spring
-Eloy Jimenez continues his hot hitting, going 2-3 and driving in the lone run. He's hitting at a .536 clip to date
-Garrett Crochet has another solid outing, giving up no runs and striking out 4 in 2.1 innings. His ERA stands at 0.00

Other notables:
-Yoan Moncada went 3-3, upping his BA to .364
-Mike Soroka, who hopefully will be a regular in the rotation, gave up a run in 3 innings while fanning 5

I caught some innings on the radio for this game. It is a strange marketing gambit that the Sox don't bother with TV broadcasts from AZ.

The Sox seem to have scored with the Dodger's trade - Nastrini and Leasure are showing they are ready. It will be interesting to see if the Sox leave them in AAA for a couple of months or take them to Chicago right away. I think the Sox might break camp and still have some MLB ready arms in Charlotte for some depth.

Soroka, Cease and Crochet have all looked good here early. The Sox may start the season with an effective rotation - I don't know how well arms will hold up but so far, the Sox have not rolled craps on any of these pitching projects.

The Sox will have a great story if local kid Nicky Lopez has a career season at the bat and at 2nd. I really like what I've seen of him in the field.

I just have to cross my fingers for any White Sox offense this season.

Sox lose to the Giants today, 5-4. But there is encouraging news on the pitching front. Possible starter Chris Flexen, in his first start of the Spring, threw three scoreless innings. It wasn't a flawless performance - he gave up three hits and two BBs, but escaped all unharmed. Said it before and will likely say it a few hundred more times, but this team will only go as far as its rotation takes it.

Not a good outing today by Kopech in the 7-2 loss to the Rockies.

2.1 IP, 4 ER, 4 hits, 2 HR, 2 BB, 2 K - ERA currently sits at 7.71

I know ST is where pitchers are working on things, tweaking their pitches here and there to see what works and what doesn't. But in Kopech's case, in each outing he's looking worse than the previous, which to me isn't a positive sign. Still time to right the ship. I just hope he gets to rightin' it sooner rather than later.

This could get interesting:

Normally I don't root for any player to miss a lot of games due to injury. But if Coles is to be out for an extended length of time, and that's still TBD, it could very well boost Getz's chances of trading them Cease for a prospect they covet, such as this Spencer Jones kid, the Yanks #2 prospect.

I'll take Jasson Dominquez - Chase Hampton - and Jorbit Vivas - 3 starters OF - Pitcher and 2nd base. We would have wait on Dominquez until July as he had Tommy John surgery.

You know the Mil better than me, so if you think this would serve our org better, hey put me down for the trade!!! Now if only the Yanks will comply.

We just won a game 14-1...and still have the worst run differential in spring training over 18 games.

Some fun and rare positives from the 14-1 blowout:

Cease went 3.1 innings, 1ER (homer), and 8k
The pen pitched a shoutout for those final 5.2 innings
Robert finally got off the HR schneid with two dingers & 3 ribs
Benintendi went 4-4, upping his BA this Spring to .321

World Series, watch out!!!!!

I think things are heating up for the Cease trade. I like the suggested package from the Rangers. Zeke Duran - will be a top 2nd baseman if the Sox can acquire him - and the pitchers mentioned add quality depth in the higher and lower minors.

Cease traded to the padres. Can’t wait for Sox twitter to show the prospects they got back hitting home runs in the minors and overhyping them

Drew Thorpe and Jauro Iriarte - are both starters at the moment. Both have great stuff - Thorpe - has better control and will likely get to the Bigs this year and prior to Iriarte. Iriarte was once - last summer - targeted for relief, but in September he went back to starter status.

I'm thinking there is another player involved too.
