I don't think anyone would argue that Alonso is better than Santana. But it's a good deal if it frees up money to improve elsewhere. 2/16 to 3/60 is not proportional to the value from Alonso to Santana.

In the AL Central, the Indians can downgrade one position and still be heavy favorites and it's not like they replaced him with a bum ... smart move by the Indians.

In case you missed the BIG news out of Detroit....

"The Tigers announced a series of minors signings today. Lefty Will Lamb, infielder Ronny Rodriguez, and outfielders Jason Krizan and Kenny Wilson are all joining the Detroit organization, with Krizan and Rodriguez also taking spring invites."

Yeah...that's right "JASON KRIZAN"
! 28 years old and fresh off a .264/4 Hr/37RBI season at Toledo. Potential is his middle name.

********************************************************************

PS: Don't forget. It isn't too early to set up to record the New Years Day football clash of #30 and #32. ESPN is waiting until the last minute to name the two TV announcers for that game....fearing that announcing their names now would result in both quitting, ASAP.

Urban....urban..urban.
The dirty games he STILL plays.
Now. He uses Eddie George and Kirk herbstreit to break the rules. Ohio loses a recruit because it breaks the rules on a kid named PARSONS.
The cheating still goes on in ohio

The Astros are talking to free agent Yu Darvish. They feel they need a backup plan, not so much for this season, but for 2019. Dallas Keuchel is a FA after 2018 and the Astros have a natural concern about the longevity of an aging Justin Verlander. Darvish (or Arrieta) would give Houston a foundation to fall back to if Keuchel and/or Verlander "disappear" by 2019.

Univ of Michigan newspaper is saying the reason the Wolverines accepted the invitation to play the Gamecocks of South Carolina (in the Outcast Bowl) was the fondness of coach Harbaugh towards South Carolina's mascot, "Cocky"

Doug, you have done it. I have actually gotten to a point where I feel sorry for you. Seriously.
1. Dec 28 is not mid-December
2. Washington State (MSU's opponent) is ranked #18. Not a 'weak' Pac 12 school, at 9-3. If Washington State is 'weak'....what does that make South Carolina (#34, 8-4)? or Michigan?

Maybe you could get someone to help you come up with some better "put-downs"???

Merry Christmas doug.....

Washington Post put out a list a couple weeks ago listing the likely most watched bowl games. The Outback Bowl was listed at #22 out of 39. What was bad for them is that two other top bowl games, are played roughly at the same time on January 1, the Peach Bowl (with Auburn) and the Citrus Bowl (with Notre Dame). Those two bowls were ranked #7 and #8 as most likely to be watched. Those two games will take away a LOT of viewers from the Outback Bowl.
BTW...the OSU/USC Cotton Bowl was ranked #3, largely because of LA market. MSU's Bowl game, the Holiday Bowl, was ranked #14...six spots ahead of the "#30/#34 clash", aka, the Outcast Bowl.

Just accept it doug. The Outback Bowl is just one of a couple of dozen meaningless bowl games, played to raise some bucks for the universities and sell some product. As far as showcasing quality college football teams??? NO

You have a good Christmas doug. I hope Santa fills your stocking with a lot of functioning neurons, some good synaptic fluid and lots of working cranial tissue.
If Santa can't bring those.....I hope your family and friends (if any) bring you a lot of Cholinesterase inhibitors.
Ho HO HO and a Merry Christmas

It's January 1 about 12 noon. Three choices for a football game starting between 12 and 1. You have no real stake in any of the three games. Which would you pick?

1. Outback Bowl. #30 Michigan 8-4 (6th in Big Ten) vs #34 South Carolina 8-4 (#5 in the SEC)

2. Peach Bowl. #12 (undefeated) UCF 12-0 vs #7 Auburn 10-3

3. Citrus Bowl. #14 Notre Dame 9-3 vs #17 LSU 9-3

Just my opinion, but the Peach Bowl stands out. So unless Harbaugh plans to have naked cheerleaders on the sidelines....I'm thinking most football fans watch the Peach Bowl. Winning football teams draw crowds, has-been or never-were coaches don't sell sh/t. In fact, except for UM and South Carolina fans (and Outback employees), who is going to watch the Outback Bowl?

Stafford completed just 54 percent of his passes and recorded an average of 5.8 yards per attempt en route to his second-lowest yardage total of the season. He opened the scoring with a 33-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, but the offense scuffled after that and finished with its lowest point total since Week 8. Most importantly, the loss eliminated Stafford and company from playoff contention, so it remains to be seen whether the Lions choose to deploy all of their regulars for next week's meaningless season finale against the Packers.
