Can we stop giving up the early goal vs good teams? Same nonsense happened vs Columbia

Just got in. Not surprised by the result at all but we couldn't get shot off all night? Seriously

When you replace Wood and Jones with Wondo and Beckerman... :L

I'm 29 and started playing when I was 5. I started playing club as a U8 in 2nd grade. Soccer was hugely popular in Cincy when I was growing up. We should be seeing guys by now who have been immersed in soccer since they began walking. I think the issue we're seeing is with development from about 14-20 years old. If you don't live in a city, your high school and club programs are probably trash, and the way college works really handcuffs the development of players who are good enough to play on the U20s, U23s, and the USMNT
Seattle is growing fast at all levels. I work across the river from the Starfire sports complex that is home to the Sounders. They have more than a dozen outdoor fields and other training facilities. I often walk around that complex on lunch breaks and see some of the training by many of those under teams as well as the Sounders themselves. Yedlin is a product of their programs. Yeah, ok he's got flaws, but at least he shows there is some talent going through their system.

Need a lot more of that for sure and it's glaring how much we lag behind at that level. The fans here entirely embracing the Sounders when they joined the league was huge.

We were gonna lose anyway but it was fucking stupid to start Wondo and Beckerman. We had 0% chance at winning with those two out there. Start anyone else and we would have had like a 2.5% chance.

That's a fair assessment. I did think the US was going to play better, that is the only aspect that stings this morning. Argentina was excellent, but the US was terrible.

Yes. Argentina looked like the world class team that they are. Team USA looked alternately deer-in-the-headlights dumbstruck and pressing-too-hard-making-bad-decisions.

Well, odds are the final will be a border war - Argentina vs Chile, yes? Team USA rematch with Columbia for the consolation prize?

If the above is so, I do hope that the organizers have to good sense to up security at the Argentina vs Chile final.

I know Euro is going on, but if we get an Argentina/Chile final in Copa, that's a WC caliber final

Granted they were missing 3 starters but that was a pathetic showing to be sure. I put about half of the blame on Beckerman for the first goal. He should have seen Lavessi slipping in behind him and switched his mark to him.

(delayed reaction here) Watching the US vs. Argentina match, it was just awkward. We coughed up the ball way too much. Often committing unforced errors. At no point in the match did I think the US had what it took to come back. Hopefully we can get our crap together for our next WC qualifying match. And then between now and the World Cup get some more experience for our younger players. They definitely need to level up a few times.
