On the Best CB Ever thread someone speculated that Neon Deion would make the 100th anniversary team. So, should he make the grade? Post your team and debate. You can project 5 more years at current levels for current players if you like.
The 75th anniversary team had the following number of slots:
QB - 4
FB - 3
HB - 4
WR - 4
TE - 2
T - 3
G - 3
C - 2
DE - 3
DT - 3
LB - 7
CB - 4
S - 3
P - 1
PK - 1
PR - 1
KR - 1
Mine:
QB - Joe Montana, Johnny Unitas, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady - Bugh and Braham were good, but the Big 2 of this era are better.
FB - Mr. Jim Brown, Marion Motley, Bronco Nagurski - this position is no longer valuable so the 75th guys remain
RB - Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, OJ Simpson, Adrian Peterson. Sweetness and Barry are easy. Replacing Sayers with Peterson is tough but in 5 years he'll deserve it. Leaving Dickerson off the list tough too.
WR - Mr. Jerry Rice, Don Hutson, Calvin Johnson, Randy Moss. 4th WR the toughest call, but Moss had some magical seasons.
TE - Mike Ditka, Tony Gonzalez. This one at least is easy unless Jimmy Graham averages 100-1300-12 over the next 5 years.
T - Forrest Gregg, Anthony Munoz, Art Shell. don't know what they were thinking leaving Shell off the original team.
G - Jim Parker, John Hannah, Larry Allen - easy addition of Allen here to the 75th team.
C - Mike Webster, Jim Otto - again, don't know what they were thinking leaving Otto off the first team.
DE - Reggie White, Bruce Smith, Deacon Jones - easy one here
DT - Merlin Olson, Joe Green, Ndamokung Suh - Lilly was good, Suh is better.
LB - Mr. Lawrence Taylor, Mr. Dick Butkus, Ray Nitschke, Ray Lewis, Jack Lambert, Jack Ham, Chuck Bednarik - don't know how you kept Bednarik off the 75th team.
CB - Deion Sanders, Mel Blount, Darryl Green, Dick Lane - toughest position to make that 4th number.
S - Ronnie Lott, Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu
P - Ray Guy
PK - Morten Andersen
KR - Gayle Sayers. Sorry, Devin Hester
PR - Deion Sanders
