And the reason I think Hextall is so good, is because he's still putting a fairly competitive team on the ice while he does this. They may not be contending for Stanley Cups, you can't always, but they're competitive for the playoffs. They're not the Avs. They're not the Sabres, or Oilers. Or hell, they aren't the Kings/Blackhawks/Pens who blew goats for 10 years while they built these teams.

I could name about 4K guys that never made it from drafting in the 20's so to put two guys up there is silly. Schenn at 25 definitely in the top third of the league in forwards and is on the rise.

Top 1/3 is a star now? Come on man. Schenn is a great PP forward who hits people. He's not a star. He's not going to be a star. He was a product of an awesome PP with the other 4 guys on that unit.

You just named Gee as a star.To use your terms he is a product of an awesome PP with the other 4 guys on the unit AND he doesn't hit anyone. Plus Schenn is on the rise while Gee is on the decline. Seems like a double standard here.

Giroux's done something worthy of being called a star? Over a 5 year period he led the entire NHL in points. That's a star. 26 goals two years in a row isn't a star. Two years of 50 points isn't a star. Giroux is a 4 time all-star. Schenn is a 0 time all-star. The two aren't even comparable. Schenn hits more. That's it.

Schenn can't even stake down a top line spot on the Flyers, who are "not worth watching". He's a middle 6 forward on a mediocre team that produces on a lethal powerplay. He's a useful player, but let's not get carried away here.

So you meant to say Giroux "was" a star because last season Gee 58 points Schenn 55 points with more hits and blocked shots

Sure. If you want to judge both players off 1 season you can look at it like that. Giroux looks to be in decline, I'll admit that. But I'd still take Giroux over Schenn every day of the week. He has more talent. Coaches have been trying to give Schenn the spot on Giroux/Voracek's wing since Hartnell left. And he hasn't been able to keep up. Michael Raffl beat him out, 3 years in a row.

Nobody has stuck on Gee's left wing not just Schenn and they had to move Voracek off Gee's line several times so that doesn't really reflect on Schenn

Raffl has though? When he's been healthy he's been in that spot. They broke up Jake and Gee last year while Raffl was hurt because they couldn't score 5 on 5. A large part of not being able to score 5 on 5 was Schenn's paltry 4 goals at 5 on 5. You could make the argument that Schenn wasn't just unable to stick with G and Jake, but his inability to drive a 2nd line forced the Flyers to break up G and Jake to try to have two passable lines at even strength (which failed anyway).

Edit: Schenn had 4 goals 5 on 5, had that wrong initially.

You forgot to mention Gee's inability to have any effect on the game 5 on 5 and yes Coots isn't blameless here either

I'm not trying to absolve Giroux (or Couturier). Schenn is just as culpable as they are. That's my point.

Giroux has proved at some point in his career that he's capable of more. Schenn has not.

Pannacio out at CSN. Probably the most widely known Flyers guy there.

Everything said in the Brayden Schenn analysis can be said about Gee.

Would you have preferred them trade G for two 1sts and Lehtera?

Nope just Gee for two firsts.

Gotcha. Clearly I don't agree with that haha. But the Blues don't have the cap space for that move anyway.

Hopefully G will be the Brind'Amour to Patrick's Eric Staal.

It’s definitely clear that CSN is making a strategic shift as they let go of a ton of older, expensive talent. In addition to Panaccio and Lynam, they’ve also parted ways with Leslie Gudel, Neil Hartman and several others this year.

They let the older higher salary earners go but unjustifiably the cable prices never go down.
