The guy who hired RR was fired for obsessive belief in his own self-importance. RR was an experiment that failed massively. Michigan would not hire Lane Kiffin-- he's too impressed with his own self-importance as well. Obviously, other than RR (and maybe Hoke), you have no idea of the history of hiring football HCs at Michigan.
Was Billy Martin fired or did he retire? Pretty sure that Martin retired of his own accord. Are you sure you have any idea of the history of hiring football HCs at Michigan?

"I can speak for myself, I'm not leaving Michigan. I'm not even considering it." - Jim Harbaugh.

Can't say it any more clear than that. Usually coaches don't completely shut the door on the idea, they leave some technicality open -- like, "there haven't been any talks with the Rams".

And then there was this tidbit which I enjoyed,

"A lot of this talk is coming from our enemies," he said. "From coaches who, and you know the names. You probably know the names of the top three that I'm referring to. They like to say (I'm leaving) to the media, they like to tell that to recruits and their families to try to manipulate them into going to another school besides Michigan.

"But we know them as jive turkeys."

Urban dictionary for "Jive turkey" - "a. One who speaks as though they know what they're talking about...though they do not. b. a bullshitter."

And now I kind of want to change my screen name to Jive Turkey

:pound:

oh jimmy, please sir, tell us who your "enemies" are............... :dhd:

Was Billy Martin fired or did he retire? Pretty sure that Martin retired of his own accord. Are you sure you have any idea of the history of hiring football HCs at Michigan?

Link: Michigan Athletic Director Bill Martin accused of pushing, grabbing student employees

Retiring Michigan Athletic Director Bill Martin admitted Monday he mishandled a situation with an employee who alleged Martin grabbed him at Michigan Stadium after the Delaware State game this fall (2009).

Another security employee also reported to police that Martin pushed her after the Notre Dame game a month earlier, but Martin said in a letter he didn't recall that incident.

The latest incident occurred just three days before Martin abruptly announced his retirement on Oct. 21. That same day, a police investigator alerted Martin of the police investigation, a police report said. . . .

Khan [security officer] told police Martin became upset and "used his right hand to forcibly grab Khan's windbreaker and gripped a large portion of Khan's DPS issued uniform windbreaker," the report said.

Khan said the person then told him, "I am the athletic director, I can go in." He also said Martin grabbed his identification badge hanging around his neck, saying, "I want to know your name."

That's why Bill Martin "retired."

And, to your point, I'd wager I know a good deal more about Michigan hiring football coaches than you do.

So he turns down Texas a few years ago, a much more prestigious and higher paying job that is much easier to recruit and instead goes to a bottom tier SEC school that is second fiddle in the state and a severe pay cut? That makes no sense. He only has a couple more years before he retires and would have been better served going to Austin than his Alma mater.

wait, what? who? What'd I miss?

Alma Mater > Texas! Plus you guys get to row the boat! Most of tRMCB are already on board as is Mike Valenti!

Again, what the hell I miss here? Dantoni to Texas?

Where'd that come from? I'd take him, he's a damn good coach, but dont remember Texas ever offering him the job?

Yes I do, the best MI coaches are sent from Ohio like a missionary.

Okay, then tell me what good teams did the SEC beat this year? Don't even mention USC. The BIG 10 was by far the best football conference in the nation this past season. Why would we have to wait until after the bowl games, to determine what was the best football conference this season?

Why wouldn't I mention USC...Oh I get it, every other team has gotten worse, but USC is SO much better now, lol.

Current CFP rankings:

7 Oklahoma 9 USC
10 Colorado 13 Louisville
20 LSU 22 Virginia Tech

Hmmm...I would say the signature wins look very similar, plus the other SEC wins OOC are TCU and
North Carolina, the latter of which is better than anyone else outside the top 3 that the B1G beat. Plus the LSU-Wisky game and the Auburn-Clemson game could have gone either way, so no, I wouldn't say they were by far the best and yes, I think I will wait until after the bowl games before I make any pronouncements based on such a limited sample size.

LMFAO!!! Wisky beat LSU and Clemson beat Auburn, bottom line. If you want to wait until after the bowl games to make any pronouncement, then that's your right. Yes Bama beat the crap out of USC, but no way in hell is the SEC from top to bottom is anywhere close to the BIG 10 from top to bottom. With Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State, the BIG 10 is by far the best college football conference this season. Just my opinion.

I agree, the best conference this year is the B1G, but the SEC has the best team. It is a weird year in CFB. Many top teams have been disasters, some took longer to get going. It is just one of those years.

I think the B1G will be near the top for conferences -- it has much to do with the coaching hires. As far as talent top to bottom per conference -- the SEC is going to be the most talented conference. The B1G has much better coaches though.

Did you ever think we'd see the day that the Rose Bowl would feature two teams with total combined losses of 5?

sad.

Totally agree, Bama is the best team, but IMO the SEC from top to bottom, is not all that good this year.

Agree. A lot of teams have had issues this in pretty much every conference. I think Bama is, far and away, the best team. But the other conferences are dealing with multiple teams in down years.

If the SEC can bring in some better coaches, no one would touch them, because of the amount of talent they bring in.

It is what it is. With the CFP, you are going to get the 2nd or 3rd choice from the two conferences.
