If you want to see a great Phillip Seymour Hoffman movie (and performance) check out The 25th Hour. A great fucking movie. And he's not in it much, but you also need to see Boogie Nights. Another really good movie. It's like Goodfellas but with pron instead of gangsters
will do

Infernal Affairs: 4/5 stars. This was the 2002 Hong Kong movie that served as the adaptation in Scorsese's 2006 The Departed (my second favorite movie of all time). I really enjoyed this one. It was a little less subtle than The Departed, but the guy who played the character DiCaprio played was fucking awesome. The boss (Nicholson in The Departed) wasn't as good as Nicholson though. Still, it's on Netflix. Check it out if you liked The Departed

Cold Deck 1.5/5 Stars. Paul Sorvino, no one else I have heard of . About a losing poker player who resorts to robbery to pay off gambling debts and take care of his sick mother (who is broke because he gambled all her money away). The plot has more holes than Ryan Howard's swing. The extra .5 stars is because I found myself laughing at the awful plot.

99 Homes: 4.5/5 stars. Excellent fucking movie, and it's only 99 cents on Amazon. I would highly recommend it. Michael Shannon is just a fucking great actor. He's going to win an Oscar someday. Seriously, who the fuck can play a ruthless villain while vaping an e-cig and still look like a bad ass? Agent Nelson fucking Van Alden- that's who!

Take Shelter: 4/5 stars. Hell of a performance from Shannon, and probably the greatest portrait of someone with a mental illness (either him or DiCaprio in The Aviator). Would have been a higher rating if the ending wasn't so frustrating and such a let-down.

God's Pocket 3.5/5 Stars. Kind of slow moving but interesting kind of dark comedy. Reminded me a little of Trees Lounge. Not much action but Philip Seymour Hoffman is good in it. It was good enough to at least make me want to check out the other films mentioned in this thread that he is in. The God's Pocket community is modeled after a section of South Philadelphia which is actually called "Devil's Pocket". It also reminded me a little of the blue collar workers in season 2 of The Wire

Just saw this yesterday. Just as you rated it, 3.5/5. Excellent combination of humor, sleaze, brutality, and sex. Best finger in the eye poke I've ever seen. Transported me right to Grays Ferry avenue.

It only got a 37% on Rotten Tomatoes, but I might have to check it out. Is it on Amazon Prime or Netflix? By the way, you've got to see Take Shelter so we can talk about the ending

"The Revenant": 4/5 stars. The movie was overrated, but DeCaprio was superb. The storyline was nothing new, and has been done before. Man vs. the elements. Reminded me a bit of "Jeremiah Johnson."

4.5/5 stars from me. Fucking awesome film. Still not one of DiCaprio's best three films though, which is a testament to his great acting

I got the Blu-ray disc from Netflix. Not sure if it can be streamed there. You can rent it from Amazon but only with Showtime subscription. Figure that out! I'll check out Take Shelter.

At my hotel last weekend I saw The Longest Ride. Sappy love story but it had two great elements, hot chicks and rodeo. I give it a 6.

The Longest Ride. Being straight, I had never heard of it, but I looked it up and read the plot:

"Former bull-riding champion Luke (Scott Eastwood) and college student Sophia (Britt Robertson) are in love, but conflicting paths and ideals threaten to tear them apart: Luke hopes to make a comeback on the rodeo circuit, and Sophia is about to embark on her dream job in New York's art world. As the couple ponder their romantic future, they find inspiration in Ira (Alan Alda), an elderly man whose decades-long romance with his beloved wife withstood the test of time.

I'm really happy for you. 20 years ago, you couldn't go online and openly post about watching "The Longest Ride" without your wife finding out and leaving you or your boss firing you. Hell, when you get AIDS, your only chance 20 years ago was finding Denzel Washington and guilt-tripping him into taking your case, and even then, you had to be familiar with the law yourself. But it's 2016, and you can post about watching The Longest Ride at your hotel and everyone will embrace and accept you!:suds:

I gave my ratings for the ones I've seen. I saw the original Star Wars trilogy but can't remember them so I won't rate them until I see them again. I've given seven movies a perfect 5/5 score. Can you guess any of them?
