If Josh Gordon and Johnny Manziel go to Denver where it's legal to smoke pot...

Dam I forgot the rest of what I was trying to say

First of all no way in hell that either of them go there. However - it would be interesting since they not only have legalized pot but also a thriving bar scene. Neither of them would have a chance. Green Bay may be a better option, but that team would never consider either of them (nor likely any NFL team for quite a while).

Um - no. That is a convenient excuse. That is like telling a felon that he doesn't have to go to jail - just figure out a way to solve your problems. Who cares if you want to watch him play football. The NFL & NFLPA agreed on a set of rules & he broke them - multiple times & now he has to pay the penalty. End of story.
No, it's nothing like your analogy. A better analogy is you wanting to kill a guy for jaywalking on his own time.

No. We are not talking about the law. We are talking about a private corporation laying down a set of rules that need to be followed. 99+% of the employees have no problem following the rules, but somehow you believe that they need to make an exception for one clown. Killing a guy for jaywalking? Whatever - terrible analogy.

No, not an exception. Every guy going forward would be better off for it.

Well - that is a different matter & I probably agree with you for the most part. However - we are talking about the current rules & he broke those. If they change the rules in say 5 yrs then good for him then, but it doesn't change the current situation.

They'd appreciate it. It would help them all.

Why?

You didn't say to change the rules league wide. You said change the rules for him. Why would they appreciate one guy getting an exception, while they still have to follow the current rules?

You are right I did say that. You could focus on the "change" part instead of the "for him" part and you'd better understand that statement as it was intended. I could have been clearer. Once changed, they would be changed moving forward. The rules were changed for Jackie Robinson and then applied to everybody.

The only thing the league is accomplishing is keeping one of the most exciting talents from the fans. It's fun to watch the best. It's not fun to watch the rest of the Browns WRs, for example.

True but rules are rules. I would not appreciate following the rules for my job only to see someone viewed as more worthy being allowed to basically ignore the rules. Gordons' actions don't just indicate that he has a substance abuse problem - they also show a lack of maturity. A good organization will survive losing a few players - not sure if that applies to Cleveland.

But Jackie Robinson's playing didn't defy federal law.

Now, I believe that not only NFL players, but everyone should be allowed to to smoke. But as long as it's illegal for everyone, NFL players will have to follow those rules.

I have no problem with the rules being changed, I do have a problem with the rules being changed and becoming retroactive.

He broke the rules.
Repeatedly.
Now it should all be swept away because he want to continue to break the rules and should no longer face any consequence...???

No.

Change the rules for all other players going forward the day after he is issued a lifetime ban.

So he's immature and a freak athlete. Let's be entertained by him.

I'm all for legalization, but he's unbelievably stupid to still be smoking with his career on the line. He already got kicked off his team in college, now he's about to get kicked out of the NFL. He deserves whatever punishment he gets.

Does Amsterdam have a team?

He would embarrass the European leagues. He'd play QB and run past everyone. They don't pass much over there.

The league isn't keeping him from the fans, Gordon and his complete and total lack of self control is doing that to himself.

If Josh Gordon wants to play in the NFL, he has to follow their rules. Seeing that thousands of other players have no problem doing just that, it's clearly not the NFL that's to blame.
