if he was worth a hill of beans..elway would have found the money
At what cost though? That's what happens when you overpay and or load up on a bunch of top tier players. Eventually, they all want to be paid. Some Denver fans were sure Oz would take a below market home town discount. The rest of us said someone will price them
Out of competition. Unless Denver finds a diamond in the rough they need to get used to this. Or let others go so they can afford a top tier QB. Maybe Siemian is that diamond. But he's half way thru his rookie contract. If he shines it will be show me the money John.

Red Right 88.

Super Bowl 37.

The Drive, The Fumble, Tim Couch, Brady Quinn, Johnny 12 Pack, Trent Richardson, Jimmy Haslam, 18 consecutive years of rebuilding. That should just about cover it.

Their loss.

If Tebow is really an NFL qb why hasn't a single team picked him up? I guess all the teams in the NFL are losing out, even the 4 that cut him?:noidea:

They offered 17M, I'm pretty sure that would have taken massive cuts elsewhere. They have no cap space.

Not true they offered $16 million a year with a lot less on the guaranteed side of the contract. They still wanted it to be very much a prove it contract.

Actually he is 1/4th of the way through his rookie contract. He just finished his first year so he still has 3 seasons left under a 7th round pick deal.

The point is Denver DID want him, he wasn't cast aside as Nebraska alluded to.

I think the Broncos were completely torn. They didn't know what they had in him but it was hard to let 4 years worth of investment go out the window. There was a lot of bad blood though between Osweiler and the FO/Coaching Staff so my guess is at least 2 weeks before FA even started the Broncos knew he was gone and made an offer to show they were trying to keep him but knowing he was gone.

You can act as though it was about show me first, but facts are Denver doesn't have money to sign their draft picks without cutting players and redoing contracts. Losing Brock was more about $$$ than prove to me you are a QB.

I still don't get how anyone could run into your OL (as big as he is) like that... It's not like he appeared out of no where

Yeah no doubt. Maybe The Sanchize closed his eyes right after the snap?

That's incorrect. There are a lot of things Denver could have done to match the contract Houston gave Brock if they really wanted to. But they weren't completely sold on him, and he was upset about being benched, and Denver offered a little less per season and a lot less guaranteed, so he went to Houston.

I mean, if Elway really and truly wanted Brock back, do you think he would have let $2 million more per year stop him? Not a chance.

Well if you think this then you haven't been paying attention. There is so much more that went into this than what you are portraying right here. First off if the Broncos really needed cap space it would be very easy to do. They cut Clady saving around $9 million. They could turn DT's Base Salary this year into signing bonus creating another $10-12 million. Very simple things to easily get the cap space needed. Throw in the Broncos had more cap space at that time as they have signed Okung, Anderson, and others since then that have taken the cap down like they have. Throw in it is easy to design a contract where the first year the cap hit is low. Look at the Chiefs last year signing Houston to a huge deal. His first year cap hit was $6 million. So if the Broncos were sure beyond belief that Osweiler was the future for them at the QB position they could have done plenty to keep him.

Next would be he told his agent week 17 when he was benched that he wanted out of Denver. So clear back in January he was already trying to get out of Denver. He felt insulted by the benching and he also didn't like the idea of following in Peyton Manning's footsteps. Heck the Houston Owner flat out said these things. Not like this is all just coming from Bronco people. This is the Houston side of the story.

Now as for Elway no he wasn't willing to sell the farm to keep the kid. HE flat out said at the combine that he didn't think this would be Osweiler's big contract. He was hoping to get him signed to more of a 2-year prove it type deal in the $10-12 million a year range and then once he had done it for an entire season then pay him the big money. Obviously FA is crazy though and teams overpay for mediocre talent all the time. Elway wasn't willing to get into that.
