Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know, I know, I know.

Nebraska has relied upon Texas "talent" for a very very long time. That "stolen" talent has largely been a huge part of their program, and why they won a few National Championships.

Sure. Maybe. Oh shit..........................., wait a minute. After further review.....

What has Texas "talent" ever done for Nebraska football?

Let us take a step back, and yes, even look at the "Glory Days" of Husker football. 1993 - 1997. One of the best runs in college football history. 60-3.

You want to know how many Texas players were on those rosters?

Let us start with 1993:

Byron Bennett: K, Texas
: Missed the possible game winning National Title winning 48 yard Field Goal that was close to as any team of being 5 Straight. Yep, 5 straight.

Corey Dixon: DB: 5'8" 160 DB and great return man that nobody in Texas wanted

Scott Saltzman:
DT: FR, nobody in Texas wanted. Walk On at Nebraska

Aaron Graham:
OL: Undersized OL that nobody in Texas wanted. Beat out Texas Tech and Baylor back in the day for his commitment.

That is it, the ENTIRE roster of Texas players on the Husker roster.

1994
Byron Bennett K, Texas
: He sure did kick a lot of extra points. And missed the 48 yard FG that would have been 3 straight. (He did the old Tin Cup Texas "yank" on that one).

1995:
Nebraska brought in Octavius McFarlan and Aaron Taylor out of Texas in that class. Both contributed, and Taylor was an All-American.

1996:

Brought in Julius Jackson. Yep, a single player from Texas in that recruiting class.

1997:

Clint Finley
: S: I think he started his Senior year. Maybe.

Kris Brown, K, from Texas landed on the roster as a walk on. Non-Scholarship player. Future NFL kicker.

1998

Keyou Craver: Really good player. One of the few out of Texas that actually produced. Lone Texas recruit we landed that year.

I'll stop there. That is/was our "Glory Years". Every player we got out of Texas that was worth a shit wasn't wanted by anybody.

I can go on with our Big 12 days of when we "supposedly" delved into the "Texas" talent. It doesn't get any better than this, trust me. (I'll lay that worthless trial out if you want).

So when people talk about Nebraska missing out on Texas recruiting, I have to laugh. I mean seriously, I have to laugh.

What are we missing? And no, don't make me go through the dreadful years of Frank Solich and/or Bo Pelini recruiting Texas when they were in charge.

You ever want to find the studs and stars that have littered the Husker roster over the years? They have come from Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Missouri, Kansas, California, Jersey, and Florida.

Does Nebraska miss Texas?

Not hardly. Nebraska misses Tom Osborne. And maybe more importantly, the best S&C program in the country that was a decade ahead of everybody else..., at least back then.

You're right about Dr. Tom and the S&C program. Osborne was a great, great coach. Pure class and graceful in victory or defeat. It was a privilege to play against his teams. And the Nebraska S&C program had a knack for taking a corn-fed kid and working is ass off 2-3 years before he got a shot at starting. But damn, when that kid finally started he was 20%-30% stronger and more athletic than anybody who was desperately trying to block him, tackle him or catch him. I know for a fact Oklahoma emulated the Nebraska training in our weight program.......and it paid off big time. I just wish we were still playing each other every year on Thanksgiving Day. I miss freezing my ass off in Lincoln sitting in a sea of red.

I miss those days as well Goldbug.

As for the weight training program? And Cornfed Huskers?

There is little doubt that Boyd Eppley was well ahead of the game. At least a decade ahead of the game, and that gave Husker football back then a huge edge. Maybe not an edge, but an edge enough to compete with the very very best.

Boyd was brought back to Husker football in this past year.

Sad note is that our players went through testing this past year and Boyd said that our numbers were behind what our players scored in the mid-80s. He stated that we needed 18 months of work (while everybody sat still) to get back on course.

The saddest factor was that our players did zero Olympic lifting. None. Zero. Olympic lifts are explosive first and foremost. We had to teach our players to do Olympic explosive lifting.

We'll be better this year.

And I'll guarantee you not all the players will be able to handle Epley's workouts. Not because of the physical demands (which will be hellish) but because of the discipline and devotion to excellence he will insist on seeing if a player is going to be successful in his system. A lot of these kids don't have the work ethic it takes to get to the level he will be shooting for. Most of them will; they want to win. But not all of them so don't be surprised if you lose a few players along the way.

Nebraska has a football program?

Yep, we got uniforms and everything.

And since we have been in YOUR conference, we own a winning record against your beloved team.

But hey, who is counting anyway, right?

You are welcome to my tailgate this year Ducky.

Don't disappoint.
