Betting odds are out. Upsets are very rare. And when they do happen they're not any kind of long shot, their odds are always just slightly behind the front runner. So I'll list the favorites, and semi-realistic underdogs.

Best picture: Spotlight 4/5, The Revenant 13/18
Best director: Innaritu 4/6
Best actor: Dicaprio
Best actress: Larson
Supporting actor: Stallone 8/15, Rylance 7/4
Supporting actress: Mara 4/6

I'm still bitter The Dark Knight didn't get nominated for Best Picture in 08 especially against such a weak slate of films that year

I've always understood Blockbusters being left off the Oscar's radar, but The Dark Knight was much more than just your regular summer popcorn film. To me it was on par with Return of the King. It was one of the great films of the decade that redefined an entire genre.

There is no way The Reader should have been nominated ahead of The Dark Knight.

Also Mickey Rourke should have won that year for The Wrestler. Which also deserved a best picture nod over The Reader.

Since 2009 the Best Picture category was increased from 5 nominees to 5-10 nominees. There are 8 nominees this year. A film needs 5% of first places votes in order for it to be nominated for Best Picture.

My favorite film of the year is Ex Machina. I'm disappointed it didn't get the required 5% of first place votes in order to be nominated for Best Picture.

Ex Machina was nominated for only two Oscars - Visual Effects, and Original Screenplay.

An interesting thing about Ex Machina is that I loved the performances of the two lead actors, Oscar Issac and Domhnall Gleeson, yet I was not impressed by the same two actors with their performances in Star Wars The Force Awakens.... that illustrates the importance that writing/dialog has upon an actors performance.

I'm looking forward to Oscar Isaac's performance as Apocalypse in the upcoming X-Men film.

I didn't even see one posting on here about last night. What's up? Leo finally won his Oscar and gave a memorable speech.

The only movies in that list that I watched were Star Wars and Mad Max...and I saw Mad Max on HBO so maybe I missed out on the experience, but I really didn't get why people thought it was a great movie. Hell, I didn't even think it was a good movie. Just your run of the mill B-list movie that you might stop down to watch on a random weeknight or saturday afternoon when nothing else is on.

I havent seen Spotlight, but I knew it would win because it needled the right on an embarrassing subject for them.

I agree... Mad Max is just a remake of earlier Mel Gibson flicks. The Oscars have become irrelevant.

Any movie with a liberal agenda is loved by the academy.

I flipped it on and back off after 5 min of the sound award (or maybe it was music...i don't remember).

I had to look up who Stacey Dash was. I know she's nuts, but wood. Love the eyes.
Definitely Wood...

I dont if you all heard but there were no double amputee nominees this year. Something needs to be done.
