but hopefully it won't be detrimental to the psyche of the youth.

Yes, let's continue to coddle pussies. And yes, if Russell is butthurt about being criticized and held accountable, he's a pussy.

And I'm not saying Scott shouldn't be fired, especially if the Lakers can get Thibs or Luke, but it shouldn't be because a player had his feelings hurt.

Enough is enough. It's time to fire Byron Scott. His handling of Russell is mind boggling. Enough of the tough love act. Enough of the conflicting criticisms. The old school rhetoric is out of control. There is no offensive system as far as I can tell, the defensive schemes are inconsistent at best, and he just keeps alienating the younger players. Keeping Byron is best for #TeamTank but hopefully it won't be detrimental to the psyche of the youth.

His coaching ability is making a hard push for the worst record in the league. That's more valuable right now. Don't worry. He's done as soon as the final buzzer sounds in April. Then management can come in and tell all the young guys "Forget everything that man taught you", which will take like 5 seconds considering there's little evidence he's done much of anything to begin with.

Well there is coddling then there is putting a player in a straight jacket. Russell should be playing 35 mins a game and if he turns the ball over 15 times then oh well, let him learn and give him a longer leash. We're what? 9-40? It's time to stop worrying about the younger guys making mistakes.

Me three. Let's get on with it since nobody is playing defense as Scott was supposedly going to instill and there is hardly any recognizable offense to speak of either. So yea, let the kids play, sit the old dudes, and stop with all of this jerking people around just to prove you are old-school or a disciplinarian or something. Gee Louise already!

Lakers need to start winning

They are on the verge of out-tanking the king of tanks - the Sixers
The better the tank, the better chance they have of keeping that third round protected pick. At this point they are obviously going for that pick while developing their young talent. These games are not about winning, these games are about developing their basic skills for next year. The good news is that this year is almost over and will be the last time they will have a shot at getting that top three pick. They will set for attracting free agents which will come eventually.

Yep, I think the youngsters all get it. The roster will change at the end of the year with the retirement of Metta and Kobe to begin their alternative careers. Maybe Metta will be part of Luke Walton's staff as the incoming new HC.

Welp, since many have brought it up, I don't feel as crazy anymore for thinking that we may have to take a look at Luke freakin Walton as the future coach. Now that we have PG's that can run it, I'd like it if he brought in the D'antoni system that they use in GS. I mean, I guess I can't get over the stigma of Luke Walton the Laker, but it's worth a try to see what he can do as coach

If we win too much they might lose this years protected pick and by doing that they also lose their 2018 first round pick to the Magic from the Dwight trade. If we keep the pick this year we get a great player maybe even a future superstar that everyone compares to Magic and only have to pay 2 second round picks to the Magic for Dwight.

Its a win, win, win if we lose and a possible lose, lose, lose if we win.

If Philly keeps winning and we keep losing, we may catch and surpass them for the most ping pong balls. Right now, we are just two games back. Lose, lose, lose!!

This post is hilarious, but good to see we are all on the same page. The team needs to tank. Ben Simmons would make a lot of this misery go away, imo. Jim Buss is so bad at his job, we actually land a promising player.

That said, the Lakers just lost ten in a row for the first time since 1994. The Jim Buss era, ladies and gentlemen. Where your old horse bookie friend gets a high level management job.

Please keep Scott till the end of the year, with his coaching we have a great shot at the number one pick in the draft. Just hate to have depend on ping pong balls.

I've got to admit, I don't know much about next years draft class. I hear good about Simmons but is it worth drafting him when we have Randle?

I'm not talking about coddling the young players. Constructive criticism is fine, but Byron needs to quit saying all the bullshit he does to the press. He is not doing the team any favors by continually criticizing the youth to the press. It's been a season long trend. They aren't the only ones making mistakes, but they, especially Russell, are the target of all the Byron's negativity.

I mean Russell is finally playing some good aggressive basketball yet gets yanked and criticized for doing such late in a close game. Coach then calls him out to the press for being overconfident and borderline cocky. That's not called being held accountable. Now it's back to passive Russell.

.

So much for developing PGs. I'll always be a fan of Byron the player, but Byron the coach has been a huge disappointment. I didn't think he was the greatest coach but I also didn't think it be such an abject disaster.

If the Lakers keep this year's pick, they would also have to hold on to next year's pick (top-3 protected) for that 1st rounder owed to the Magic to turn into two 2nd round picks. Philly would then get the Lakers 2018 1st rounder (no protections).

Only if we keep the pick next year. Chances are we won't. If we get Simmons and a max contract player with the money coming off the books the Lakers will be a 42 win team next season

The Magic lose our 2018 first rounder if we hold onto this year's and next year's top-3 protected pick. I misread the initial part of your post.

I agree that the chances are slim that we keep the 2017 first rounder if we end up getting the #1 pick this year. I have loftier dreams though. Two max slots and some potential trade chips (youth and the #1 pick) could instantly turn this team into a contender.
