Is the Michigan defense really this good?

At the first shutout, I thought it was just a fluke and we really just jumped on, and destroyed, a good BYU team. Then we went to Maryland and did the same thing. I though, that's impressive but Maryland is just so bad. And then we did this to a top 15 Northwestern team. There's a reason 3 shutouts like this haven't happened in 20 years, it's not easy. With half the season on the book and having played 3 ranked teams....I'm going to say, yes -- yes this defense is elite. And it's getting even better by the game. It's been almost a month since a team scored on us. I mean, I've just never seen anything like it. I think this may be the best Michigan defense of my lifetime and that includes the '97 team.

They are good, but I think the media hype machine has overshot their ability. They have been amazing during this stretch, but they still have a long way to go. IMO, we've played one good offense this year, and that's Utah. We allowed 17 points (and the offense allowed 7) but I think their offense went into clock kill mode for a chunk of the 2nd half. This week was a good test for our offense, next week will be a good test for our defense. It's going to be fun.

I think us Michigan fans are tiptoeing around because of what has happened to us the last 15 years. But we have to be realistic here. We've played 3 ranked teams, one in the top 10, two in the top 20 and we've blown out two. And the Utah game seems a bit different now given it took 3 turnovers, two in the redzone, for them to win that game by 7. That's a legit top 10 team that we opened the year with away and only lost by 7, even with the bad turnovers.

Every week I keep saying, "well, next week will really tell us something". And then we blow that team out. At some point we have to accept that this is not the 2014 Michigan football team. Even without a win against MSU or OSU -- it looks like we have 4 more pretty easy wins on the schedule. When some were saying 7 wins was our ceiling coming into this year, that's pretty amazing.

There may be some truth to our fanbase being a little gun-shy. If Northwestern bounces back with a few more wins, Utah keeps rolling, and we can get back the Paul Bunyan Trophy, I'll feel a little better. Right now, I feel we have a great start.

I am proud of my team and my school. Sorry. I know that we haven't really won anything yet and I am not trying to say we are better than Michigan State or ohio state. I am just saying we're older and I am proud. Is there some sort of phobia you have that people from the University of Michigan can't be fans? I can understand the ohio state folks, but if Michigan doesn't have a stake it something or Michigan is not playing Michigan State I root for Michigan State. I am proud of the Spartans and their successes of late. I do, however; hope we annihilate you next week (notice I said HOPE).

My real older brother went to Michigan, was a walk-on basketballer...
we've always been very competitive - but, he's NEVER called me (as a Spartan) "little brother."
And, interestingly enough, very few of my very many Michigan alum friends have EVER, even in drunken jest, called me or mine "little brother."
If you really want to do your adopted Michigan alum brethren proud? Act like one.

psst, fyi...I've a royalties stake in your adopted school's success...my (former) company's little maize/blue UM flags stood here -I/75N at Ohio border- for over 5 months in 2012...with 58,000 vehicles passing by daily.

I, personally, cannot wait for next Saturday's game. I just wish it was in EL vice AA. No matter, though, I'm hoping like hell Sparty puts a thrashing on scUM ... maybe better in front of the weenies' home crowd.

I will admit, this game has def taken on a lot more significance in light of the skunkweasels' little run they got goin on.

It better be nationally televised, too .... none of that BTN BS. I understand Gameday is gonna be there. Should be a great atmosphere.

I knew Hoke recruited well and that UofM had talent. I also knew UofM teams in the past have been pushed around and looked like they were trying to play finesse football.

So today after three shutouts were they looked dominant I have to ask what the hell was going on the last 4 years at Michigan? How the hell could a team be so inept and have the talent to dominate the way they have the last 3 games? And were the hell did this Lewis kid come from? Who would have thunk they had a shutdown DB at Michigan. Someone needs to investigate the fraud that was going on in Ann Arbor the last few years because no way should this team have missed a bowl game.

I miss the Bobby Williams days at MSU and the John Cooper days at OSU the same way OSU and MSU must be missing the Brady Hoke days at Michigan.

Ohhh ... I agree. Especially this year!

You've always been aight in my book Vol ... you're a good sport for all the abuse much of your fanbase stirs your way.

And you don't have to remind me of all the recent heartbreakers scUM has handed my Irish. That 2011 game .... may as well have just ripped my gonads out thru my arse watchin that one. Those games are NEVER forgotten and that one in particular ... everything that coulda went right for yall, did. I still get sick of seeing every one of those Denard hail heaves find weenie receivers.
