AJ Preller? Dave Stewart? Jack Z would've been a great pick but he's gone now.
LOLI don't know why you have Stewart as a choice.
The "Rockstar" GM. Making some dumb trades and destroying your farm system in an attempt to turn the Padres into overnight contenders is one thing, but to compound it by not trading your FA's and possibly guys with value like Ross, Kimbrel, and Shields at the deadline(when it was obvious the experiment had failed) makes you deserving of the worst GM title.
The only problem with Ross is his walks, top 15 in strikeouts among all starters but 1st in walks. Even with that, I want the Padres to keep him long term. It seemed like every team that contacted the Padres at the trade deadline was interested in him. Would have been awesome to see the Ross brothers in the same rotation...PrellerI wanted the Sox to get Ross pretty badly. Extreme groundball pitcher with high strikeouts? Yes please.

I don't know why you have Stewart as a choice. He has had the position for less than a year & has guided his team from a 64 win season to an around .500 season.
Yeah. He inherited a roster that has some pretty talented position players, including two MVP candidates in Goldschmidt and Pollock. In all fairness though, how much of that improvement is his doing when it appears that many (if not most) of the key players this year were on the team last year, but were just injured, weren't full-time players (a number of Arizona players were midseason callups last year), or just didn't play as well.

Stewart's additions to the team, both in the offseason & during the season, have directly contributed to team's improvement. He added to the rotation & moved out players like Didi & Trumbo. What that did was give the team a stockpile of arms & clear out the lineup for younger players.
Outside of Pollock & Peralta, both of which really aren't young, the young guys haven't really improved. Lamb, who missed almost 2 months, has played about league average. Owings is hitting far worse than he did last season. Ahmed plays lights out defense, which is a improvement over Didi, but his bat has been silent. Inciarte has hit a little better than last season.
The real difference has been the stability of the rotation over the season & having decent arms in the minors to plug holes. While none of the guys have pitched like TOR arms, a few, Ray, RDLR, & Godley(all Stewart acquisitions) have pitched well & are young enough to expect improvement next season. Having all those SP arms has also allowed them to convert some young farm SP to BP arms. The result is more close winnable games.
Sure, Stewart should be mocked for the Toussant trade. But the majority of the hate that comes his way is from the sabermetric crowd. Most of that crowd predicted a last place 65 win season this year & have been proven wrong.
Stewart had to clean up KT's mess while trying to field a team that can compete. I think he has done a decent job in his first season as a GM.
Tomas so far hasn't shown that he's worth the money Stewart gave him (and many weren't high on him when they did sign him considering he doesn't provide much outside of some pop, which he hasn't shown yet).

Preller.
