Send down the brownish green turd, or send down the greenish brown turd.

Mariners front office decisions.

Ya, but I would send down the yellowish blue turd.

Yeah, keep Ackley on the roster, and wait for him to perform "to his level".

Another 4 years sounds kinda right.

We do that with Presidents.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think Trumbo is a nice addition.

Does his OBP make me cringe? Yeah, but he makes up for it by going yard at a pretty impressive rate. He's no savior and none of us like his OBP, but he is definitely an upgrade.

I just hope they don't can Morrison when we could easily drop Ackley.

It's kind of funny, when you go back to the concept of Moneyball, the two things that are always undervalued are OBP and defense. The Mariners sure are not aiming for either of those, that's for sure.

I get the Ackley deal, but do we really want Trumbo in left and Cruz in right? I guess we could have Smith in left, but he isn't a better defender than Ackley. Still would love to find an everyday LF that is above average at the plate and in the field.

Ironically, a guy a lot of people wanted is 16th in majors in OBP (a major need) and plays the OF pretty well (another major need). Aoki has a .385 OBP which is 2nd highest of all available free agents (Markakis 13th at .392). Mistake by Jack...if I had a nickel blah blah blah.

Is Trumbo the cure? No. But like I told my wife, he is better than nothing and nothing is what he replaces. Win-win.

If we can end trading Lomo for an outfielder and play Trumbo at first mainly then I think I'll like this trade a lot more. An outfield of Trumbo and Cruz gives me shades of 2013.

Me as well. Pitchers ERA's skyrocket with balls falling in everywhere...well they do already I think.

Like I have said on here before, we have a lot of defensive DH's on this team.

Would love:

Cruz at DH
Trumbo at 1B
Smith in LF
Get a real RF (that can also hit some). Parra from Milw is one name out there. Major arm. Cheap return.

Defensively I would be satisfied with this. Not the best, but better.

Im with you. I'd rather see Trumbo playing 1st. However, i don't see that happening. Seems MCL favors Lomo..

Our defense sucks anyway this year so whatever. Doubt our defense can get worse considering most of the cast returning from last year fielded a top 5 D.

Edit: Actually looks like it's gotten quite a bit better. Still....

I was thinking the same thing.

I look at it like this, the upgrade with Trumbo's bat is more than significant enough to account for a regression in LF defensively. I think the main reason the idea of him playing in the outfield makes us cringe is because we know that Nelson Cruz would be playing the other corner outfield spot.

Aoki would've been a really great addition as a leadoff hitter. Gets on base, runs well and plays solid defense. It's undervalued guys like him the Mariners need to look for.

You can only do so much when Cruz, Seager and Trumbo are hitting nothing but solo shots.

It's a valid argument that Trumbo "doesn't fit our needs", but I'll take a serious upgrade in something that "doesn't fit our needs" over nothing at all.

Spot on all the way through.

After mentioning Trumbo in LF over Ackley, I then realized it would still be an upgrade of Trumbo over WeAks. We can still bring in Ackley for defense late (I never thought in a millions years I would say that...standards.have.dropped.)
