It doesn't really explain much.

First off, his projected $19.25 mil future AAV starting 2017, ranking sixth among QBs doesn't mean much this far out. And likely his AAV won't be that high when you figure in the 2 years already under contract, into the cap number mix. Which would put him around $16 mil+. Secondly, the $45 mil guaranteed is a fictitious number. His current 2 years under contract is figured into that number. He is only getting about $23 mil in new guarantees.

If Seattle has already offered a deal of greater value than what Tannehill got, which is what has been rumored, then this deal has no weight on negotiations, because both side are already above the where Tannahill's contract money is capped at.
This^^^^. Mike is the voice of reason here and he's a Card fan, so listen to him.

You gotta admit Harold, it certainly looked like the Seattle HO did not anticipate Wilson clamoring for a mega deal what with the huge contracts they paid out the last few years.
I don't know about the FO, but lots of Seahawks fans thought it would be team friendly. I'm not shocked myself. RW sounds and acts like a business man. Nothing wrong with that. He'll get signed. Most likely for more money then the Seahawks were hoping for, but just wait until it's Lucks turn. Now that is going to be something. I'm sure the Colts, Luck and his agent are watching this closely.

The Colts like to wait till contracts are expiring before they sign players to extensions. That's how they handled manning twice. I think 7 years @ $150-160 mil with $75 mil in guarantees & $40 mil up front, is where the numbers will land.

People need to remember that between the start & end of a 7 year deal, the cap is likely to rise over $50 mil during that time.

A franchise QB is the hardest thing to find for a football team so when a team has one why do you only leave $11 mil in cap space to sign one long term?
His salary for 2015 is $1.5M. The only part of an extension that would need to fit in this year's cap is the prorated portion of the signing bonus. The extension will add years to the end of the current contract, not replace the final year.

After reading this thread I have to laugh a bit.

None of us have any insider knowledge of the situation. It is constant bs media reports with no sources to back them up.

The fact remains this: Wilson is under contract for upcoming year. If he still has not signed an extension by that point he gets tagged.

That is 2 more years before the panic button gets hit. People are acting like it is game over today! Ridiculous.

Also, the article made reference to Wilson leaving football to play baseball if he does not get his way. Really?!? The guy hit .229 with 26 rbi's and 5 HRs in 93 games of Single A ball. He has no future in baseball unless he wants to waste a few years floundering in Class A making 40k a year to not be able to hit anything. There is a reason why Wilson quit baseball and went back to football and that is because he was told that he was never going to be able to develop into a professional level baseball player.

Give it up already people. Get back to me in 18 months and then we will see if there is anything to discuss.

Mike's cap knowledge is exceptional. He is an excellent contributor to the Hoop in this respect.
But let me get one thing straight. I am the voice of reason mike is goldzilla. Don't be stereo-typing Cardinal fans Harold. :nono:

We have a QB that wants more than 1.5 mil a year. Is that some sort of novel situation that no one has ever dealt with before?

We added Jimmy Graham who is evidently worthless??

Two years ago we lost two CB's: Browner and Thurmond. We also lost Red Bryant and others. What happened? We went to the Superbowl again.

This last offseason we lost...Maxwell. Obviously we're toast.

Say, how is the Patriot CB situation looking like going into the upcoming season?

graham is a nice red zone threat, for sure...good addition. but no joke, i block better than he does.

you went to a superbowl, and lost a superbowl.

pats are poised for a big move at CB...they cleared people and cap space for a reason.

Yea. It sounds like the Patriots right now.
Brady is old.
Who is their RB?
Oline - very thin.
Defense - Who are the starters in the secondary?

I will give you the crafty vets and coaches who are atop their game in cooking up schemes outside the rules. But that is about it.

So the Seahawks are done, Rock? Wanna make a wager on that? I'll take the over on 11 wins. You take the under. Should be an easy bet given that we lost that vital cog to our team, Max Unger.

And he won't be expected to block much. His vertical threat will provide more running space for Lynch than his blocking ever could.

Yup. Good game that we lost.

Good time to be looking to make a big move at corner. Lots of options available. I hear Leon Sandcastle is looking for a gig.

Well it appears there is an issue signing your QB when we were told in many threads there would not be. Is reality setting in now?
As usual, LL is reaching for the limb. A team that ruins your dream is the cause for that.
We are not experts, nor are you. JS is our GM and he is the expert. He is kinda like Ted Thompson with balls. Only better at his job.
$7.2 million in Percy Harvin dead cap space will give some room, as will an expected increase in the cap for `16.
I'd would launch Okung and his oft injured ankles/pecs/ ect. How long can Marshawn and his huge contract last?
We know about reality in the cap era and you are full of BS if you think otherwise. Again, read my opener.
We have lost a gob of FA's over the last 2 years. We were allowed 11 picks in this years draft and will have a bunch next year as our FA's end up singing for huge bux elsewhere. We should get a 3rd for Maxwell who was a 6th when we took him.
Again, we are in position to rep the NFC. Maybe you guys get to this year. Keep on hoping and praying for our demise:hope::hope::hope:

hes 29 dude. RB's die about age 30. touche?

That's a myth. There are plenty of examples of RBs who produce after 30. There is decline, sure, but die is a little much. Hell, there are guys who's best seasons were after they turned 30.

and you added a TE who blocks like my grandmother in heels. line should be a huge concern for you. if not, you dont know who kelly stouffer is and should turn in your 12th man retarded game wear.

There isn't gonna be much difference in Graham's blocking than we had with Willson last year, so the TE blocking isn't gonna be the issue people think it is. Unger missing 10 games last year (29 in the last 5) is a much bigger issue than Graham's lack of blocking - I'll miss Unger though, was a great center for us.

The line is a concern, but has been sine 2006. If the line issues were really gonna stop this team then the last 3 years should have been just horrible. As for Kelly Stouffer, he was just horrible, stop blaming that on his line!

and who have you lost off that defense and replaced them with?

Ok,

Red Bryant - Cliff Avril
Chris Clemons - Michael Bennett
Brandon Browner - Byron Maxwell
Byron Maxwell - Cary Williams
LeRoy Hill - Bruce Irvin
Alan Branch - Tony McDaniel
Walter Thurmond - Jeremy Lane

Now if this is a question about just the 2014 season, then Maxwell would be the only major contributor who doesn't appear to be returning (well maybe Kevin Williams, but he was hardly a key part to the defense except being pressed into increased service due to injuries).
