V/H/S: Viral (2014)

If you've seen the previous 2 then you know what to expect. I wasn't as impressed with this one as much. Thought it tried too hard during a few clips, and also didn't care for the real-time story line. The plot was too rushed and porous to develop anything meaningful. But these movies are pretty much centered around the VHS clips anyways. The skateboarder clip was pretty wild, but sadly that was the only one I liked. Another clip was very disturbing. You'll know what I'm talking about if you choose to watch it. Seems like they rushed this one and let it ride the coattail hype of the previous 2. Not going to recommend this one, but like I always say, worth the watch if you are starved for new material.

I think the creepiest movies are the ones that where they don't have happy endings or where the good guys don't win.
The Strangers comes to mind, but there are many others.

Simple slasher movies I don't think of as horror movies, just slasher/gore movies. You don't find yourself putting yourself in their position. Where as horror movies you can put yourself in those situations, & for me that is what makes them creepy.

Blair Witch Project while not a high profile movie, I could put myself in the what if that were me situation. Which would be creepy as fuck. That is what I look for in horror movies.

Quarantine would be another one that doesn't end well for the people in the movie. (therefore would suck to be in that situation)

I agree. The sad & unexpected movies are often the ones that resonate with you and leave you with that creepy feeling. I'm definitely a fan of that. A lot of the possession & exorcism type movies end that way. Exorcism of Emily Rose, Devil Inside, The Unborn... List goes on and on. There's nothing original about those movies since the plot-line has been beaten like a dead horse for decades, but they still leave you with that creepy feeling every time!

Also feel the same about slasher movies. They are only good with a six pack & low expectations. Too predictable and often irritating. I don't care for movies that show a bunch of gore either. Perfect example is any of the Saw movies. The original was awesome, limited amount of gore and it creeped you out with its genius. But then Hollywood ruined it by recreating it over and over, while injecting more and more gore instead of keeping the plot interesting.

I've said this before, but I think BWP deserves a lot of credit for being incredibly original and pioneering an entirely new genre of horror. I still remember to this day the first time I watched it in theaters. Didn't sleep well that night! lol

Great movie. Took the first person filming to an entirely new level. Have you seen the 2nd, Terminal?

Is Jaws the greatest "horror" movie ever?

I know it may not be the first that pops into mind, when mentioning the word "horror", but I assure you, the influence it had transcended the genre and even the idea of film, itself.

I think it would have to be in the running for sure.

Couldn't agree more! What Jaws did for horror is like what Babe Ruth did for baseball. And not just horror, it is referenced in music, television, and art... The film is virtually timeless.

What did you think of it? I liked it almost just as much as the first!
same concept but I liked the 1st one more.
Don't know if it was because in the 1st one there was so much unknown, but the 2nd one I already knew how it was gonna play out.

Yea, as it is with all sequels, the element of the unknown goes out the window. The big change between the 2 was the 2nd wasn't shot by camcorder (1st person). But still really well done.

That is the movie I was thinking of. That was pretty good. Blair Witch Project also creeped me out.

Re-watched Event Horizon over the weekend late Saturday. It's very good.
I watched it a few weeks ago... Probably one of the best sci-fi thrillers of all time.

Disaster LA (2014)

Netflix movie! Honestly found this movie pretty entertaining. Probably one of the better zombie movies of 2014. First off it is clear the budget is low, but the acting and special effects were better than one would anticipate. There were moments where you scratch your head, but all in all I think this movie was right for its budget. The plot was semi original and presented us with a different aspect of the zombie apocolypse. I for one was getting pretty tired of the zombie material, but this movie surprised me.

Worthy... 7/10

Final Prayer (2015)

Had high hopes for this movie due to its relatively high ratings on imdb & rottentomatoes but it fell short. Maybe I'm the odd person out, but this film is mediocre at best. Generic run of the mill random stuff moving, falling of walls and/or making 'ominous' sounds. The whole "found" footage scenario is starting to get overplayed. It adds a good element for these types of movies, but when the material is presented the exact same way but in different scenarios, it becomes exhausting. The plot was decent, the acting was average, and the ending was horrible.

Watch if you dare! 5/10

Hit And Run (2009)

Hard to pinpoint this one. It's supposed to be scary, but turned out funny. More along the lines of a senseless & stupid movie. It has all the elements that make up a good movie, but yet it is still not a good movie.

But it isn't a bad movie either... Follow? lol... If you watch it then you'll know what I mean. Best viewed while drinking some hard alcohol or smoking some of the finest herb. Beyond the obvious gut-wrenching events of the film, it will make you wonder what you would do in a similar situation. The story is pretty ambiguous which is good. The characters can be moronic, but the acting is believable. Overall pretty decent.

Grain of salt... 7/10
