It needs to be noted that all addicts are not the same and addicts have good hearts . They just get kind of lost and Caan's portrayal does not represent all addicts. Everyone is different on how it affects him or her.

I don't know how good Pete Rose's heart actually is but no one is faulting him for not having a good enough heart though. He's faulted for betting on baseball games.

One last thing on Rose. Maybe Rose was so competitive he missed that competition side of himself when he retired as a player. Gambling can kind of be a competition within the person to see how good you are at it depending on who they are maybe. They might be chasing that competition high. Just something to think and talk about. Rose can be a intense dude that looks for a challenge and there is nothing wrong with that but maybe he just channeled that intensity in a kind of destructive way by betting while a Manager. Pete is the only one who can answer that question. We just don't know why he did it until he tells us.

I really want to see him stand at the podium at the HOF induction. It would be the biggest event and a lot of people would make the trek to Cooperstown to see that speech. Some people might be mad to hear that Rose's speech would be that much of moment.

All I know is that place will be jumpin' if he gets in. All those businesses that surround the HOF really look forward to when everyone comes into town for that induction ceremony.

Those hard working people kind of got the shaft when a few years ago when only a few well deserving people got in but no really huge names went in. The podium was kind of quiet and it had to effect the turnout and in turn hurt those business's.

Another couple points to discuss. Man, HOF discussion stirs up so much emotion.

I agree that Jackson should be enshrined at this point, but not Rose. We can revisit his eligibility when he is dead.

Exactly. His ban has seemingly served as a good deterrent to others in regards to betting on baseball.

Pete Rose got what he deserved and agreed to.

Sweet justice would be inducting him about 10 minutes after the news breaks that he died. You know, while his body is still warm.

Or maybe that would be vengeance? :noidea:

I understand your point, and that it is meant in semi-jest.

But I think that even after he dies, and his "punishment" is officially over, that there still needs to be a discussion about his inclusion.

The argument that he STILL does not deserve induction because of the betting is still valid, and needs to be discussed.

FTR, I am pretty sure that I am of the opinion that he SHOULD be inducted. I just think the convo needs to be had at the time to make sure.

at this point why would Pete rose even want to be in?? he is known to be the best player ever not to be in, and one that should be in... and people fight for him... once he is in he will be a middle of the road HOFer, and will be forgotten in his immortalization...

true, but bonds will get in soon... the difference between Pete rose and the steroid class, is that pete rose is one guy, it is easier to keep one guy out than it is a whole generation of players...

If bonds and clemens does not get in in the next 5 years i will be shocked...
