I guess I don't understand why people are so caught up on clock management when the team WON THE GAME!!

IF the field goal at the end of the game, which was hardly a chip shot had failed, the three points NOT EVEN TRIED FOR at the end of the first half COULD have cost the game...........:wtf2:Is it you don't get????????

Hello guys, I don't post often, but read all the threads. I can't say enough how pleased i am in the progress of the team this year. I really liked how we attacked their defense; especially when it was obvious they had no answer to Mr. White. The defense was great and can't believe how much better we are even with backups.

I know you are having a bit of fun with Dad! With that said, he is one of many who will never accept Dana or Luck. They would much prefer to play the old style football (i.e. scores 14-13) with "good old boys" at the coaching position. They will never like the Big XII because they don't have the resources to see any of the away games. I understand the last point a bit, but to play top 20 teams week in and week out and know we have a fantastic home field advantage against our friends from the south will always ensure we knock off a couple of them year in year out.

To be honest, I was growing skeptical of Dana last year after the embarrassing last half of the season. In hindsight, I too underestimated our depth (or lack there of) and yesterday's win was that much more impressive after losing Shell, Chestnut, and Worley. We now need some horses on the line to stop the Alabamas and OUs of the world and then we can once again say we can beat anyone.

It is nice to be relevant again.

I said this last year and was laughed out of the building, that maybe with what we had 4-8 was a pretty good job.

All those players on offense and a couple on defense had just been on campus a couple of weeks by the time the season started. Yet we had some people saying by game 7 it should have all come together, not admitting to the fact by game 7 we had a real young and unhealthy team.

Damn, Saban should be worried about his job, a 4-8 record with a tie with Texas and a win against OKST, but blowout losses to Kansas and IAST is a GREAT coaching job. So are you saying that Holgorsen is doing the same as last year, but the players are just better???:noidea:

Dad - it's almost like you don't want our Mountaineers to win to prove your point. The FG went in….we won the game (yes it was ugly). The team improved and now we just beat #4 Baylor by 14 points and would have been more had we not had so many TOs in the first half. We have 3 more ranked teams on the schedule and have a real chance at doing something special this season.

Today, instead of "great job Dana"….you point to Bradley as being a great hire and Tony Gibson starting to get the defense going. You should be praising Dana for being good enough to recognize changes had to be made and making them.

Be honest, do you want the eers to do well?

You are a difficult person to like. The players are different and/or significantly better. Who is responsible? The defensive scheme and athletes are much better. Who is responsible?

Last year sucked, but how do you feel about the current team and the improvements made? What don't you like about a 14 point win against #4 Baylor?

SOOOOOO, players can learn and mature, but coaching ability is stagnant?????? Go look at the UMD game thread on here, BB, look at the comments from quite a few fans about the end of the first half against UMD, were you in my living room that day to know what I did and didn't watch???? Dang, you are getting defensive, what a joke you have become in your ridiculous comments. :lame:

OK... DAD... I did as you asked. I went back through the MD game thread. I saw where you were posting through the first part of the game, then stopped. You did mention to Mac at game's end that you felt Dana should have taken a TO in the first half.

But, no one agreed with your post... nor commented about this suggestion of yours.

The clock management suggestion about the first half was simply yours... and only yours.

BTW, I don't understand how the first half issue was a clock management issue. You stated you thought the defense needed to be calmed down... and the coaches should have called TO.

That is not clock management though... clock management applies to offensive possessions... or calling TO to save time for the offense to have one last possession if they can force a punt or turnover of downs.

WVU's last possession of the first half...

MD KO to WVU for touchback. WVU ball at their own 25. 40 sec. on the clock...

West Virginia at 0:40WVUMARYBrad Craddock kickoff for 65 yds for a touchback28201st and 10 at WVU 25Clint Trickett pass complete to Rushel Shell for 4 yds to the WVirg 29 WEST VIRGINIA Penalty, illegal block (-10 Yards) to the WVirg 191st and 16 at WVU 19Clint Trickett pass incomplete to Wendell Smallwood2nd and 16 at WVU 19Rushel Shell run for 4 yds to the WVirg 23Timeout MARYLAND, clock 00:213rd and 12 at WVU 23Wendell Smallwood run for 5 yds to the WVirg 28End of 2nd Quarter

So... of the 4 plays of this possession... the clock stopped on two of them because of penalty. MD called a TO, and WVU ran out the clock.

Where was the mismanagment of the clock?

SOOOO, you shouldn't use a time out on defense when the other team grabs momentum????? The STs and defense were in complete disarray at the time. By the way, MAC brought up clock management first in the UMD game thread.

after being up 28-6, giving UMD 14 points while our defense and STs stood around watching, a TO SHOULD have been called to calm the kids down, win or not, a coach HAS to get the kids thinking about the next game, the next situation, coaching is NOT just about right now, it is about the rest of the year too.......

So in the middle of a football game the HC should be thinking about next weeks game already?.....:what:

Hell yea I want them to win, I also want to see the team get better each week. Holgorsen was a bad HC the last two years, and I give him props for learning and growing this year. I was thrilled to beat Baylor Saturday, I see the coaching staff maturing, and I think Bradley has a lot to do with Holgorsen learning, I do not think it is a put down to Holgorsen to say he is listening to an older, more experienced mentor. When I see BS on the field, I WILL point it out, the ST play has been horrible this year, and WILL cost games if not improved!!! I give my atta boys to the players, NOT the millionaire coaches

Define Horrible

Alford is #3 in the country in return yardage and #1 in returns for TD's

O'Toole is #43 in punting average and Team Punting is #40

Lambert is #48 in Field Goal Percentage and #1 in PAT

Molinari is #36 in Touchbacks

Now if you want to say Punt Return and Punt Defense is an issue I am with you....but to say overall special teams is horrible...not so much...

Yes… Mac brought up clock management. He stated he hadn't watched the first half of the game, so he couldn't comment about it. He did not like WVU leaving 2 TO's at game's end. Why bring that up? It does not help you prove your point.

I understand his concern about the end of the game. I felt uneasy about it as well. But, it is hard to say it was clock mismanagement when Dana states that is how they practice… and, the end result was a game winning FG. Once the ball sailed through the uprights… I felt pretty good. Had the kick fallen short, I would have been unhappy that they didn't get Lambert closer in order to help him out.

WVU is lucky to have such a great PK. Who recruited him?

Seriously, the thought of WVU calling a TO late in the 2nd qtr never came to mind for me. Prior to WVU giving up the big TD toss in that qtr on blown coverage to Diggs, the defense and offense had total control of the game. There were no nerves to settle… the defense was doing its job… minus one play.

In MD's last possession, WVU isn't going to call TO in order to help them out… MD had little time left and had already spent 2 TO's in WVU's previous possession.

I truly don't understand where you would want a TO called. And, you would have to explain to me why it was necessary to call it at the time you suggest.

There was NO BS CLOCK MISMANAGEMENT at the end of the first half of the MD game. I have no idea why you keep posting such crap. You didn't even watch the game. How can you make such ridiculous comments?

To say Dana was HORRIBLE last year... is quite telling. The quickest turn around in coaching abilities in the history of coaching. Is that what you truly believe?

What a joke...

You mean YOU do not believe ALL it only took a little studying by DH over the off season to get to this point?!? C'mon man.
Damn, I wish I would have seen the end of the first half of the MD game to see how running 1or 2 extra plays would have made a difference in the final result of the game. I could have sworn they won that game, but according to the expert, I may be wrong.

:omg: Is this our long lost self and we are actually a quintet instead of a quartet? What out Tortuga, you'll be addressing the same comments over and over again because some people just do not get it. Your assessment is spot on.

By the way, good to see you on here.

Well… none of us know the game like DAD. Dana has to call a TO there. He is preparing the team for its next game… at that point of the MD game.
