Long tooth by a country mile.
Im abstaining. Never saw RS play. Saw Elway complete less than 50% of his passes in a season though.
Elway's completion percentage was less than 50% one year -- his rookie season -- in a 16-year career.
Right. But 56.9 for his career is still not very impressive. (3 times over 60%.... In 16 years. 27 TDs for a career high.)
To me your argument is symptomatic of what is wrong with trying to use numbers to compare guys who played in different eras on different teams with different surrounding casts. Completion percentages and number of TD passes are both far greater now than they were when Elway played. Elway also played most of his career with a HC who really tried to emphasize running the ball -- until, it was too late in the 4th quarter of games for that to work, at which time Elway was called upon to bail them out. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't, but he never had the quality of teammates (or coaches) that most of the QBs who are GOAT candidates had, until he finally led his team to win back-to-back SBs when he was way past his physical prime.
