I just gotta say now. The Orioles head into September with a 9 game division lead. Sure some people thought the O's might squeak into the playoffs or put up a division fight, but sheesh. O's are spanking people.

The O's have been one of the best teams since the all star break.

True. If you told anybody the Orioles would have a 9 game lead entering September people would have looked at you sideways. It's amazing the complete beatdown they are delivering.

Hard to believe they were only a game above .500 a couple months ago. Their run prevention has been fantastic the past ~2 months.

Can we please stop pretending the Yankees are still a serious playoff contender?

At least Mookie Betts is showing some promise. He has a good eye. And it's nice to see he's still showing some pop after last year. Guess last year's power breakout wasn't a fluke.

I've seen a lot of people toss around Ray Durham as a comp.

They're probably done now. But if you don't think a team who was 2 games out a few weeks out shouldn't have been considered a serious contender for the playoffs, I'm not sure what to say to you.

they have an average at best pitching staff (especially without Tanaka) and a terrible lineup. they've been struggling to stay above .500 almost all year long.

Why do they have to be?

You know the game they love to play on espn/baseball tonight all the time? Pretender or Contender. That is played using all teams that have been in the hunt.

I don't think anyone has seriously thought the Yanks end up with 1 of the 2 wild card spots this year at any point. The fact they hung around this long is remarkable.

the yankees best run differential in a month this year is +3 (in July and August). their run differential on the year is -32.

And they're still not dead yet. 4 losses is nothing. 4 losses can easily only be 2 losses behind by Sunday Night. Detroit still play Cleveland and Kansas City several times in addition to a series with the Giants. In addition to that they have 2 more series with Minnesota who they're 6-6 against.

For the 100th time, the Yankees pitching isn't anything special but on most nights they do enough to keep us in games. Hitting has been the issue all year long. The Yankees are 22th in runs scored and 2nd to last in the AL in runs scored in front of Boston. That is all you need to know about this season.

You keep bringing up their pitching when reality is their lack of hitting is the reason they're struggling and this is pretty obvious to all yankees fans. I lost track of the # of games where this offense failed to produce 4 runs or more. There's been far too many games where they scored 3 runs or fewer

Yankees starting pitchers era is 3.82 entering the night which was good for 6th best in the AL and 15th in all of baseball. As I said before the pitching has been solid. In 2012 when they made the ALCS they finished 15th with an era at 4.05 while in 2009 when they won the WS the starters ERA ended up at 4.48

Let's stop putting the blame on the pitchers.....clearly not their fault

the Yankees' 3.82 team ERA ranks 8th in the AL. The league average in the AL is 3.86. The Yankees have a 102 ERA+, 9th in the AL. League ERA+ is 101.

that is average. It might not be the pitching's fault, but it certainly hasn't been great.

And it's stupid to compare the raw ERA of this year's team to the 2009 squad. The league ERA in the AL that year was 4.46. That's a huge difference, especially when you consider it's only been five years.

The Yanks should be better next year, without Jeter.

How should Boston/Fenway 'celebrate' Jeter's last game on Sept 28?

I never said their pitching was great. The starters has been solid and usually do enough to keep us in the game. Yankees lack of hitting is what will most likely prevent them from making the playoffs. I remember back in mid August, they went through a stretch where they scored 20 runs in 9 games

At what point do we just go ahead and say the O's are the favorite to win the World Series?

I will still take the Angels and the Tigers if they make it.
