this is where you couldn't be more wrong. The simple way to measure teams is by watching them and understanding the sport you are watching.

Well of course but we cant all watch all the games for all the top teams. Ive seen arizona 6 or 7 times this year and wisconsin 8 or 9 but we all have to depend somewhat on metrics because otherwise we arent basing our opinion off of all available info

ya a tough fought road victory is much worse than controlling marquette at home all game and winning by 6.

cut to more quoting of rpi, bpi, SOS, oppD, OppO, blah blah blah.

not that I care about experts picks since most experts are retards, but i do think it is hilarious that not one of these guys picked Wisconsin to make the final four, and EVERY one of them picked us:
Midseason awards: Top players, updated predictions - CBSSports.com

also if you were deserving of the #1 claim, maybe you should start by getting ONE LITTLE MEASLY VOTE first...

Like I said earlier 6 points was not close to indicative of the final score. A 15 pt victory is what the game truly should have been. My comparison was the Ill game of the 25 pt blowout ofa top 25 team vs the
AZ vs UCLA escape.

The only reason the Marq game was mentioned was Marqfanboy throwing garbage on the wall and seeing what would stick.

Wow, so you're going to laugh off the statistics that demonstrate UW's superiority but use experts who you don't even care about and believe are retards to substantiate why AZ is better. :laugh3:

Thank you for this, you and Marq have made my day.

Good night

When unable to watch all the games (has anyone here seen even 10% of the division 1 games this season?) the eyeball test has a glaring flaw. No eyeballs on the game, no eyeball test.

If you want to account for all of the games played, the various rating systems are the only ones that can include all of the games and do it objectively.

Yes, I'll trust the eye test over a ranking system on any given game, but until I can watch them all, I have to put some faith in the metrics.

this is true. But i can say that I have watched at least one game for every top 25 team, and a whole lot more. and i will always go by that rather than these rating systems, PARTICULARLY during the first half of the season. later in the year these metrics actually mean something because they take into account the whole season, but right now they are just worthless.

how come every major sports outlet uses kenpom, sargain & RPI

but not BPI?????

God damnit slapdick how many times does this have to be explained to you?

BPI is ESPN's metric. They developed it. They own it. It will NEVER be used anywhere else. None of the other outlets are going to promote ESPN's product for free. That would be retarded. No big surprise I guess that you would think they should.

kenpom thinks we are better than you. but you know why i don't think kenpom (along with all the other ratings systems mean shit?)

kenpom also has Ohio St #1. Kenpom has Louisville #4. Kenpom has Pitt #7. Kenpom has creighton at #8

Just because I quote something doesn't mean i agree with it. See cbssports experts.

YOU are the one who loves all these ratings systems, I guess I am just curious why you haven't mentioned the one that ranks Wisconsin below arizona...hmm

then that really kills the legitimacy of it then.

are you the type that believes that foxnews is the only accurate news station. i mean if they say so it must be true right???????

1.) Every non-homer knows the final score was not indicative of the game as it really should've been a 10-15 pt win.

2.) HALF the team? Math 101 here was questioning my IQ.

3.) Iowa who is an equivalent to SD st. and we had our worst shooting performance and yet still had our best comeback in ages and won the game. If anything this displays we can be off and still beat elite teams further proving my stance.

No Finney-smith, wilbekin, walker are a bulk of their punch.

6 pt game was more of a 15? It was a 3 pt game with like a minute left and we suck.

Iowa at home compared to SDSU(game never in doubt on the road) hahahah you really are a fool.

i refer you to three posts ago, where i correctly predicted the future in which you would start quoting rpi, bpi, blah blah blah. Does Wisconsin have a better QBR than Arizona as well?

Thank you Nastradamus, yet your only defense is we're better because I say so.

RPI isn't usually worth a shit until about halfway through conference play. By then you can actually start predicting what final RPI's will be since you know half the criteria (game location) and you can make educated guesses regarding the other half (wins and losses)

Kenpom is pretty decent fairly early. It's pretty much raw effeciency numbers, so they're accurate from the beginning, but as the season progresses, you'll often see they become a better indicator of team strength.

Sagarin is a little rough to start, but usually by the 3rd or 4th week, his numbers are worth a look at.

If I'm not mistaken, they don't even publish BPI numbers for the first part of the season.

Anyway, I tend to trust my eye more, than the numbers, but I have to concede that sometimes the game I saw a team play isn't indicative of how they play overall.

Will you just answer why you are so butt hurt I said the current #1 team is better than you?

It's not like I ranked ISU and Wichita STate above Wisco.

You really care that much that someone thinks your teams is 2/3rd best in early January?

Sad life.

it's because they have probably spent 2 weeks at #1 in their history and they REALLY need it for recruiting purposes!!

i gotta say kenpom to start the season seems even worse to me because most teams simply play cupcakes. should your offensive and defensive efficiency numbers be completely skewed if you play shit teams?

Well, when playing crappy teams, you're usually going to be more efficient, so the efficiency numbers are still generally accurate, but they'll be less indicative of overall team strength.

I don't use Pom as a way to rank teams. I utilized SOS, and Oppd and OppO however. I believe those are my top stats (with a few other categories) I use when comparing teams and can do so now since we are deep enough in the season. Combine this with the dreaded eye test (which is maybe 4-5 games of the top 10 teams for the above average fan) and that's the most time or effort I'm willing to put into judging teams ranking.

Also some people as well as the experts may determine ranking teams on a different basis. Some may utilize the just the rating, others just the eyeball test, maybe how a team would play vs another, or combine all these categories. I use my select stats with the eyeball test but not the category of how a team would do vs another as that is an entirely different conversation IMO. Honestly on a neutral court I would give the slight edge to AZ due to the rebounding weakness on our side. That's not to say we can't improve or utilize a different lineup (see second half of Iowa game) but that's just how I feel.

This is exactly the reason why you have to consider favoring the badgers because they have the higher efficiency numbers despite playing a tougher SOS.

Still not half my friend

The game hovered around ten for the entire second half until the final 3 minute mark. You said your eam sucks and not me.

Playing our worst game of the year and having an epic 51 point second half for our best come from behind games in quite a while vs an eilite team is an extremely impressive. Who are you attempting to impress with name calling (moron, IQ bashing, fool, etc)? This doesn't prove your points, if anything it accomplishes the opposite. Is it really necessary to use degrade fellow board members? Please at least attempt to have a conversation without incorporating childish attacks in the future or you might find many people will just stop talking with you.

Anyways, thanks for the conversation and I actually do hope Marq makes the tourney as I cheer for all Wisconsin teams until they face UW obviously.
