Oh i am not arguing that the "home field advantage" excuse is bullshit. But every time an SEC team loses it's either they didn't want to be there or their conference ranking drops 4 from what they were saying before. Like in 2011 Georgia played in the conference championship game but i have seen many SEC fans say that they were the 5th team in the SEC.

Being in the conference championship game doesn't mean they are the 2nd best team. Sometimes you have multiple teams that are better and they just happen to be in the same division.

In 2011, Georgia was no where near the top of the SEC. And I don't think 5th best is that far off.

3. Arkansas
4. South Carolina
5. Georgia

They haven't even earned a ROSE BOWL berth yet, and they are crying that it is beneath them.

I hope Oregon State or the PAC 12 South team pound them into the Alamo bowl.

As players, they should never had made such comments, but the reality is, the shine is off of some of these traditional prestige bowl games since the advent of the Plus-one game.

I think it was Sakau the other day who was saying "something is wrong when Auburn has a better shot of making the Sugar Bowl if they should LOSE to bama."

These classic games aren't so classic anymore. They're reserved for those teams who had a good season, but just weren't quite good enough to make the big'un. It's part of the reason why I would rather just go back to the pre-BCS days when more than one team had a right to feel good about their season when the bowls were done. Yeah, yeah, I know, "everybody gets a trophy" = america is full of pussies.

As a fan of a team who has never played in the Sugar or Orange or even the Cotton, I would love the opportunity. But five or ten years after the fact, nobody would givashit that we had played in a Sugar Bowl with a 10-2 (or 9-3) record after not actually winning our conference.

um, they were the 5th best team in the SEC that year. alabama, lsu, arkansas all finished in the top 5. south carolina finished 9th and beat georgia head to head. at georgia no less. georgia finished outside of the top 15. the only reason georgia reached atlanta over south carolina was because south carolina had a tougher SEC West draw (had to play @arkansas, whereas georgia did not have to play any of the big 3 that season from the west).

Interesting thought and one that the Ducks always seem to look right by of late. With a wounded QB and a game that "historically" can go either way, perhaps the Ducks should just stay focused 1 week @ a time and be happy wherever they fall come bowling season.
