I would have a hard time giving a 30 year old pitcher a 5 year deal - 4 years at $18m I would consider withe stats you present...unfortunately the Anibal Sanchez contract last year has set the market at this level, and Garza is better than Sanchez...

Yeah, it's a numbers game for sure. And we've got that fool out there in LaLa land who may come in with a CJ contract and say, "we'll go 6 for #125 mil!" He's pretty free spending, no doubt about this.

But I'm with you guys that if we Garza back to go with Darvish, Holland, Perez and maybe Lewis, that's damn stout!

For now, let's worry about this season and start sweeping some of these bottom dwellers we've got coming up!

Healthy Harrison, Yu, Holland, Perez, Healthy Lewis? No way we pay that amount for Garza. Garza will most likely be wearing a Dodgers uniform next year. I would say Angels but they are spent.

Well if the rangers gave up a good amount to get garza I think they have a really good shot at garza to sign because they probably think he will re sign

It was me - yep, it was a 2 year deal for $16m and $10.5 was paid in 2013... But I still wouldn't do it - a 26% raise....nope...

Its the the qualifying offer he'd probably end up signing a 2-3 year deal at around what he made this year

If he doesn't and signs elsewhere, we get compensation, if he does we get him at a slightly elevated pay, but only a couple million

Rios not expected in Houston tonight. Washington will play him in RF and bat him 6th.

They are surprisingly similar...Garza has had much more exposure given his time with TB and the playoff experience. Sanchez was buried in Miami for many years. OK then, Garza deserves a Sanchez type deal!

Barely but Sanchez pitched 7 1/2 years in the NL in Florida compared to guy who pitched in the AL for the majority of his time with 3 years against the AL East and then when he goes to the NL it is in Wrigley Field and Sanchez is still has an ERA barely ahead of Garza. Both are good pitchers though.

Now if we could just hear the rest of the story. Who plays CF and LF?

He does deserve a better contract but also nobody expected Sanchez to pitch like a #1 either. 2.58 era 2.37 FIP 3.00 xFIP is better than what garza has done

I don't think TEX gets compensation if Garza signs elsewhere

:agree:

And Cruz made 10.5 million this past year for the person who said 8 million eariler

Given the season Nelson WAS having, and IF he DID NOT get busted for PEDs...I would expect someone of his caliber WOULD HAVE this offseason been asking for a 3-4 year deal totally around $60-70M. Maybe that would be too much for most organizations given Cruz is what 33 going on 34. And NOW that he IS a PED category player, at age 34 next season I think the best he gets is a two year Melky deal with a third year club option with a total price tag of $25M. I am no MLB contract smart guy, but seeing what others are getting, no doubt his agents go for something like this. Will the Rangers compete for such a price tag on a 34 year old? Remains to be seen. But given his age, thinking the Rangers pass unless he agrees to a one year deal.

I guess that means Rios will have an 0-fer in his first Ranger "appearance"...

Well this year Atleast. He's been better. In the AL of all places!
