This needs to read like a sentence, so you would need an "of" there. Also, it's ok if you use up to four words if it's necessary or fewer than three, too. You just can't use more than three and fewer than three at the same time.

Oh. I thought I was cheating, because the beginning "sleeping on the ground" and the later segment "in a lions pit" both referred to the same space, the ground. Unless the lions pit was in a zero-gravity setting, it had to be on the ground, and thus was redundant. I thought that's how I cheated.
Sleeping on the ground beats the hell out of sleeping in a lion's pit for a research study on the effects of manually breeding otters...
