Not really sure, I just read that the model you have fs108 has no routing fetures...

Try this.

Another test to try:

Diconnect the router from the switch
Find the cable that connects into the switch from your computer
Remove that cable from the switch and plug it directly into the router
Test internet connection from your computer. You should get interent access, but no one else will. If you can now connect to the internet, that would suggest that the switch is at fault.
Repeat from 2 onwards at a different computer to double check.

I think it may be the switch, or even the ethernet cables I am using from the switch to the CPUs. They are all kinda old.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm talking to an actual IT professional now, if he can't get it to work I'll probably just buy a new switch.

Are the LAN settings on the computers proper?

I had a netgear and it ran like ass. Personally, I don't know what you're using the network for, but I bought a WRT54g (Linksys) used off of ebay, and it works great - in only has 3 ethernet jacks, though.

My router is a linksys E2500. It's not the problem, the problem is the netgear switch I think.

My "IT pro" has yet to respond. I guess I'll just try getting a new switch tomorrow.

LOL

All three laptops I'm using right now are new. So it's not the computer itself, maybe some setting on it - but I think it's the switch at this point.

Have you tried using just one computer on the switch?

You have a known good ethernet cable from the router to the switch because you said you bypassd the switch and you had internet.

Test your other three ethernet cables the same way (one at a time) from router to computer to verify they are all good.

Then try putting the switch back in the system with only one computer hooked to it and try getting on the internet.

Yeah, I tried all that. Nothing.

It's gotta be the switch or a setting that I'm not familiar with. :noidea:

I have to get this fix sooner than later. The longer I'm down & working on this, the more I lose moneyz.

First, make sure the cable you are using to connect the Router to the switch is a regular patch cable, and not a crossover cable. The easy way to conform is to look at both ends of the cable, and the colors should be in the same exact order on both of them.

If 2 of the colors are out of sync, you have a cross over cable, and that will not work anywhere in your scenario.

Second, the switch is auto sensing, so it shouldn't matter which port you plug it into from the router.

Your network should look like this:

Internet connection goes into the WAN / Internet port of your router.

Only one of the ports from the router gets plugged into the switch with a patch cable. If you do two ports, you're fucked :) (Ive seen people do it)

Once you have the PC's plugged into the switch, do the lights on the switch come on for each individual port?

If they do, your next step is to go to each PC, and hold down the windows key (between ctrl and alt on your keyboard, bottom left) and the letter R. This opens the run box.

type cmd in the run box, and hit enter.

That opens a command prompt.

Type ipconfig and hit enter. This will tell you your IP address. what is it? Should be 192.168.x.x or 172.31.x.x or 10.x.x.x

If it's 169.x.x.x, that means your router isn't properly DHCP'ing, and you might have issues there.

Speaking of which, what model is your router? Is it for a cable modem? DSL? i.e. what kind of internet connection is it?

The connection is correct. I bought a new switch & ethernet cables today.

The new switch & cables didn't change anything.

My router is a linksys E2500, and a DSL modem.

That is what I'm thinking. When I was trying to get my old PS2 hooked up years ago that damn crossover cable was the reason I couldn't get it to work. Finally after figuring out what they were talking about when checking the "colors" I found a cable I needed and it all worked perfectly.
