I'm convinced that's all he's worth in the current market.

I don't see a big difference between Wilson and Mayfield. If Wilson is worth $20M per season then he's worth trading for. If he's not worth $20M to another team then the Broncos will cut him. If he's not worth $20M then how is Mayfield worth $40M? On the flip side of the coin if Mayfield is worth $40M then how is Wilson not worth $30M, and why would the Broncos be talking about cutting him? I figure most of the player stories are down to agents trying to inflate interest in their clients. We'll see what happens, but ultimately market analysis won't mean a thing. If a GM is prepared to overpay for someone then that move temporarily sets the market, but there's a limited supply of GMs willing to make high-risk, low-reward moves. Cousins > Garoppolo > Smith > Mayfield > Wilson.
Okay.

LOL.

I agree, but I see it being a short contract. I could see them throwing a Cousins type offer at him, fully guaranteeing it. I've said it earlier, but 2 years $60-65 million fully guaranteed could be the landing zone. With the weakness of their division, and the salary cap rising, this would be a comfortable amount of money with little to no risk for TB. Even if he flames out next year, they're drafting a high end rookie with the draft pick in next year's draft. If he takes them to the playoffs again, then you've continued in making them competitive.
Also wrong.

The Browns wrote off Baker way too quickly IMO, he had a bad 2021 season where he was plagued by some injuries, and for some reason the Browns became hell bent on getting Deshaun, which I think may have been a big mistake. Baker then went into a dysfunctional situation in 2022 with the Panthers. I have never thought of Baker as a bust, I’m glad he has seemed to find a nice spot in Tampa.

The Browns had Mayfield for 4 years. Making a change going into year 5 was entirely reasonable. Both Mayfield and the Browns handled the situation poorly. Mayfield effectively engineered a move to the Panthers. He doesn't get a pass for the mess.

I think the Browns may have been better off sticking with Mayfield than trading away a ton for Deshaun.

The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reports the Buccaneers are “expected to pursue a contract extension” with Baker Mayfield.
This doesn’t come as much of a surprise, especially after the Bucs went out and hired former Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen to run the offense in 2024. Coen worked as the Rams’ offensive coordinator in 2022 and crossed paths with Mayfield late into the season after the Panthers released him. Under Coen, Mayfield threw for 850-4-2 in five games, looking like a far more polished passer than he did with the Panthers. The Buccaneers re-upping with Mayfield makes sense for both sides. His resurgence with the team led them to a 9-8 appearance and a playoff berth. As a result, the Buccaneers also have the No. 26 pick in this year’s draft, putting them well out of the range of a franchise quarterback.

I read a thing this morning where the bucs asked Baker about the OC (article actually said got his permission) So Baker signed off on this guy before the bucs went after him.
Which also means to me. The bucs extending Baker is a foregone conclusion.

I have never thought Mayfield was a total bust, even when he was in Cleveland. And if a guy like Daniel Jones, who totally sucks, can get an lucrative extension then surely Mayfield will.

When we talk about Mayfield we are not talking about Ryan Leaf here, who was a colossal bust being taken with the 2nd pick.

We have this same discussion about QBs every year. You get one QB every 5-7 years that looks like can't miss.. the rest is a roll of the dice.

This is why Mayfield will get paid. This is why Dallas is going to pay Dak.

Dallas has a lot of guys they need to pay this offseason. 13-14 free agents I do believe.

And they are almost -20 mill in cap space.

In the red.

What did he end up getting? I guess the playoff win got him a bigger contract?

I was guessing a 3 year contract in the $85 million range, what did it end up being?

Guessing the "some reason" was at time considered an elite QB (very least near elite) in the prime of his career? Probably why at least a dozen teams wanted to go after him.

But I don't think Baker is a bust.
