If the 'world' is buying 6 streaming services then the world can pass me by

To me you can do

Direct TV with HBo Max 150

or

Hulu stream plus espn and Disney (example) 80

Netflix 20
prime 10
Peacock if you so wish 5
Max 10 to 15

same price basically and you get substantially more.

a comical side note: shortly after I made my previous post, I happened to check my mail - I received a spam from "Paramount+" claiming my membership had expired. (it wasn't really from Paramount, and I never had a membership)

they will get like 5 million new subscribers with the hope they keep some.

The did this during the summer with a Dodgers game we really wanted to watch. We ended up spending the $4.99 for the month and dropping it at the end of the month. For one fucking game. I imagine a bunch of people will forget that they signed up and continue to pay the $4.99 for eternity.

Also, Peacock sucks ass. There was no reason for us to keep it.

Looks like we'll be spending $4.99 again this weekend(unless they raise the price) for the games and then cancel again.

Rm gets prime free with her Amazon account....I definitely tuned into more games this season than last but I stilll probably watch less than half of them. Streaming sports is such a pita. We had to hook a laptop up to the TV because that's where I want to watch a game on a 55" screen not a tiny laptop screen. And forget about clicking around during the commercials or if you want to hit bed early and watch the end of the game from there. Nfl got their millions but it wasn't for the fans benefit.

No smart TVs it seems? Even my cheap Roku TV streams via WiFi.

I've got so many streaming services, but I actually like it. It would be nice if they were all blended together though. I currently have:

Amazon Prime: Free because of my work account
HBO Max: included with my cell phone provider
Disney Plus: $2 a month due to my student discount
HULU: $2 a month due to my student discount
Peacock: $6 a month
Netflix: $22 a month
Youtube TV: $73 a month

Probably don't need it all, but I do like the options I have.

If you want a "one shop buys all" approach, Youtube TV has an unlimited DVR. You can just record every show and they keep it for 3 months, while re-recording it whenever it comes on. It keeps them in order by episode if you are doing a tv series (new and older shows0. You can find almost every movie or tv show from past or present on there, and they will have it all categorized for you. It's really good.

I've been getting spam from various fake sites promising $2/year specials, including "Paramount+". Impossible to trust emails these days.

A personal choice but I dont like TV or movies that much. Sports and Video games are kinda my 1 and 1a.

Celebrating paying for something that used to be free is an interesting flex.

and a TV used to cost a small fortune relative to household income as opposed to now.

but those 5 free channels were super awesome

Yep. They made cutting the cord the same cost as cable.

I don't feel that way. My last year at Direct TV, the bottom package was $120 and it wasn't much of a package. They kept giving me deals as I threatened to leave after every contract (I was paying less than $50 a month for about 3 straight years with them), but they finally quit offering me deals to stay, and quit calling to get me back.

On top of that, I can stream all these services anywhere on any device and don't have to have tv's plugged into the walls to do it.

Streaming has made things MUCH more affordable, a way better selection of options, and more portable.
