Day 1 thoughts:

  • Overall, very boring from a trade/energy perspective
  • Not a lot of WTF moments. Unfortunately for me, they mostly happened with my teams: TOR and NSH
  • Does Glendale have a large Russian population? New revenue source for the Yotes?
  • Carey. Oof. That was hard to watch. And I am genetically trained to hate all things MTL.
  • Will someone please tell the teams that, after 3 or so, NO ONE has to congratulate Vegas, suck up to Poile, or thank the city of Nashville for their hospitality. Announce the damn name and move on.
  • The previous comment can be attributed to me NOT getting an invite to the open tab at Tootsies.
  • Finally, was disappointed that no G was drafted. Was hoping the home crowd in attendance would bust out the traditional "You suck. Its all your fault. You let the whole team down".
Guerin and Treliving both looked like they came directly from Tootsies to the draft.

I was surprised to see Treliving there. Thought there was some petty restriction imposed on him by the Flames, around being involved in the draft.

He couldn’t join the Leafs table until Calgary made their first round pick.

Which you knew right when it happened because EVERY Leafs beat guy and half the insiders all tweeted “Treliving can now join the Leafs table” as if it meant a god damn thing.

I don’t really care who the Leafs took but if they were going to go off the board so hard there are like five teams with multiple 2nds etc, the Leafs have no more picks for like 4 rounds and need prospects badly, why didn’t they trade down?

Wow, Did not know that. Guess I am thankful I was stuck with Weeksie and the ESPN coverage lol

That takes petty and silly to a whole new level. Oh well.

I cant take much more of this Hawks GM. "The place to announce a pick is on the stage at the draft". WTF with this me me me mentality and thinking he is the ultimate developmental guy.

Korchinski better be on the blue line this year.

They better make an offer to Kane since they are paying hall 6 million to be a cap filler and they better not sign 3 more thirty something D men.

I don't really get it either aside from the optics angle. It's not as if Tre wouldn't have relied any Flames intel to other member of the Leafs brass that were there. Kinda dumb if you ask me.

He walked up to Frankie's kid there and gave him get the fuck outta my Face kid or I'll make your dad look like father of the year
I just saw the video of that ... that was Patrik Allvins son, Adam who handed the jersey / hat over.

Patrik didnt come to any of his spring hockey games but I guess the trip to Nashville makes up for it lol

Flames picked a Morin in the 2nd round :D

/Etienne Morin, some scouts appear to be quite high on him.

Canucks take D Hunter Brzustewicz in the 3rd round.

Hunter Brzustewicz has great puck-moving habits and deception in his game, which enables to be a force in transition. Brzustewicz can constantly make forecheckers miss with fake changes of direction, timely spins, and by moving the puck before they can get to it. He attacks space to fire on net and manipulates defenders to get shots through and opens passing lanes to the slot. -EliteProspects 2023 NHL Draft Guide

Let's hope he pans out better than the last Hunter they drafted.
