Someone on Reddit said that the Rangers were right to not bring back Moore because the price was too much. I disagreed. Quality BP arms are worth the cost. Right now I would count not bringing Moore back as CY's biggest mistake so far.

bullpen arms are the first thing to go in trade deadlines. prices are always about the same unless it’s a really high end one?

Corey Seager will join the rangers on this road trip and is expected back in 7-10 days. Hopefully we could see him hitting in the Oakland sewer if all things go well.

Veteran LHP Danny Duffy, who hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021, is headed back to Arizona to continue his long rehab. Duffy is, however, expected to start facing hitters at extended spring training. It could put him in position to be a consideration in late June or early July.

Rangers' Seager close, deGrom out a few weeks

Bochy said deGrom isn't that far away from starting to play catch.

"He hasn't started throwing yet, but he feels great," Bochy said of deGrom on ESPN's Baseball Tonight podcast. "We're in probably that three-week area (for deGrom's return), and we're almost a week into that now."

Bochy said Seager isn't "big on" a rehab stint. Because he's been hitting for two weeks, the Rangers will make a decision on his return after the upcoming weekend series with the Angels.

Will be interesting to see if Dominic Leone goes on to have a solid season with the Mets.
He was doing good down in the minors and the Rangers let him walk… while needing bullpen arms..

Sometimes having to trade for relievers can be very costly. In 2007 we traded Eric Gagne to the Red Sox for 3 players -- Engel Beltre, Kason Gabbard and David Murphy. We got a back end starting pitcher and a very quality player in Murphy.

Gagne had had a 2.16 ERA for us. When he went to Boston he put up an ERA of 6.75. So, it can be costly and has a fair chance of not working out.

Remember Uehara's struggles after we acquired him in 2011. He cost us Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter.

The same year we traded a PTBNL for Mike Gonzalez who put up a 5.14 ERA for us. That PTBNL turned out to be Pedro Strop.

It is much more wise to acquire relievers in the offseason. Now we will be forced to overpay for a couple of guys who may or may not work out.

Regardless of price via trade or Free agency it would have been nice to get a closer this past offseason. Rangers evidently thought they had that covered but alas they did not

We have picked up some relievers via trades it seems. Deikman and Mike Addams come to mind but I am just spouting an off the wall opinion.

Market though may not be great
We have given up relievers too. Some got great deals. So hard to say

Nature of the business. The Rangers playing .600 ball, being #2 in run differential, and leading the AL West a month into the season - even with Corey Seager in the lineup - would have been foolish to imagine this offseason. The situation is obviously different now for the front office, and as it stands they have to approach the trade deadline with the goal of winning the division, not a WC spot.

All we can do is wait to see what CY does at the deadline.

Different expectations, but the need for relievers existed before expectations changed. As it stands now we may have to find 3 relievers, but if we had acquired 2 of them in the offseason we might need I at the deadline.

It also might cost us a chance to win the division before we even get close to the deadline.

Maybe CY can find the bullpen equivalent of Spencer Howard at the deadline. Lol

Yeah I agree that Chafin would have been a good pick up and really thought Moore was locked up to sign after the first of the year.
Hate to let good guys go but we did have some depth for long guys.

Still always thought you need solid guy’s designated for the 7th 8th and 9th. That was always unclear for this club in my mind

As a reminder, here is a list of relievers still available in early December.

All relievers are not created equal. The Rangers could have picked up 2 OK relievers in the hopes for a WC, and that could have prevented them from adding at the trade deadline, finding themselves in the position they are now.

I think they could have gotten 2 for the same price as Heaney. They could have traded for a decent long man and allowed Ragans, Otto, and Dunning to compete for the 5th spot.

It seemed like most on this board wanted them to acquire a couple of relievers this offseason.

My stance on this has been consistent since last October.

of course. that's been well established. but, that didn't happen. we can go through the list of moves they could have made, but didn't.

but the offseason actually ended a few months back. the season started. the team is actually playing now, with the roster they have, and the decisions are more about what can they do moving forward. kinda seems like deconstructing the offseason over and over is pointless.

All things considered? Did you not see the pitiful bull pen relivers? They cost the game when Dunning was available.
The Rangers bullpen has cost the Rangers at least 2 games.
