Seriously, if we're lucky enough to win the Sugar Bowl, all Tech fans should be given rings because we are the only reason VT is in a BCS bowl. On field, we don't deserve it, but we're there because our fans travel. Period.

That said, that's the reason Michigan is there too. They're quite beatable so no excuses, just win baby!

I actually don't have a problem with us getting in the game. Looking at the pool of at large teams, outside of Boise we had just as much of an argument as anyone. have you seen who Kansas State and Stanford played? They each have one good win. Michigan ain't pretty either.

Boise got snubbed. After that it is all a muddled mess. Let's not forget the 11 wins because of two blow out losses to a good team.

Would have gone with Boise vs Baylor or KSU, personally but the system isn't about fairness.

The Sugar Bowl Should Be Renamed the "You've Got to Be Kidding Bowl"

Michigan is the 3rd. best team in the B10. They are rewarded for losing to #2 and avoiding #1 entirely. That and a gutless 8 home games, I don't know that the BigTen deserves 2 BCS bids. If there are2? There's no doubt Michigan St. is more deserving than Michigan. Anyone who watched their head to head meeting knows MSU was even more dominant than the 28-14 score. This is not the 1st time the Sugar Bowl has picked Michigan over despite MSU proving it was the better team. They did for their 2000 game (the 1999 season) That time they (the Sugar Bowl) ignored the only thing that really matters to break a tie. This time there was no tie. MSU was better in the standings too.

VT plays two ranked teams all year. Are blown out in both games and are rewarded for it.

How does the Sugar Bowl selection committee sleep at night?

Say what will you will about the title game. You could mmake a case for Oklahoma St, but there is logic to the selection of Alabama. This is the rare year where Oklahoma St. had the tougher shedule of the 2, but the Tide didn't exactly struggle this year The Sugar Bowl? What the criteria was? Superiority on the field counted for nothing,

People keep saying this, but who deserved in more than Tech? I will grant you Boise UT that is it, and neither Michigan or Stanford did any more than Tech did. Tech is being punished by many for winning their division and having to play a 13th game that Boise, Michigan and Stanford didn't.

Hey Mikey,

Nothing in life is fair - especially when it comes to the BCS. And sorry Mikey, Bama playing for a NC exemplifies this flaw. Two-thirds of the BCS equation is really derived via OPINION of the voters as well as team branding and such. Leave it to "The Machine" aka ESPN to brainwash everyone as to who the "best teams" are year in and year out. Do you really think all coaches actually fill out their ballots themselves? So Michigan, VT, and Bama playing in the BCS bowls exemplify this. Until we have REAL objectivity to where true selection of a NC is determined on the field via soem sort of playoff - this kind of chaos will happen from time to time.

Don't get me wrong, as a VT fan I love the fact we are going to a BCS bowl game. But as a passionate fan of cfb, it sucks to see the best teams get left out of good the NC / good bowl games year after year.

Yeah, I will be there

And the people who are bitching about us going to the game can suck one. After being left out of the Fiesta Bowl when we were #5 for ND, we deserve it. The bowls are a for the matchups - thats how the BCS committees sleep at night. They, like any business, are trying to make money, and it wouldn't be a savvy move to invite Boise instead of Michigan. It sucks, but that's how it is. I just a whole hell of a lot happier now that the shoe is finally on the other foot for us.

My thoughts exactly. Pointed out the 2000 snub in the other thread. If all of the at large teams had to play in a conference championship, as well, they would have probably been knocked out of consideration anyway. Kansas St and Michigan would be 3 loss teams and knocked out. It would probably be Boise and VT at that point.

Kansas State is still playing in the most intriguing non-BCS bowl. They get to play Arkansas, where if they win, they will get more respect than the Sugar Bowl winner. Conference gets less money, but a win will help their program a lot.

That is the system Mike and as many have already said. Deal with it. I am sorry that you are a MSU, Boise, KSU or whatever fan, that got left out of this game, but once again, it is for some reason. The Sugar Bowl had its choice of about 4-5 teams and chose the teams who it thought would..
1) Give it good television ratings on a Tuesday night
2) Sell the most tickets

As many have already pointed out, there are NO teams who have done anything more than VT has to deserve this bowl. Boise??? PAALEASE (you want to talk about our weak schedule, they might bring 5-10,000 fans to nawlins)...MSU (out by default that Michigan is in and don't travel as well) and KSU (don't travel, not attractive)

With that being said Michigan AND Virginia Tech seemed like the most logical two teams available. Do you not think they are tired of having the teams like Cincinatti, Utah, and Hawaii play in its game?? Every bowl, sometimes more than 1 (minus the Rose Bowl) is gonna get the shaft on this once every 2 or 3 years, so you better believe that when given the opportunity, these bowls will select someone of their choice who will bring in the most $$$$. I would look for more of this when the BCS renegotiates in a year or so and disclude AQ all together.

Although we did not make a great statement in the ACCCG, I am excited and think we deserve to be in this game as much as anyone.

The ONLY win over ANY team of ANY significance was vs. UGA 1st game of the season. FWIW I don't think they win that game at the end of the season. Haven't seen the final rankings of all 120 but I would bet that almost every team in the MWC is in the lower half. Sorry ESPN, I don't buy into the bullshit conference rankings you come out with every week that says the MWC is better from top to bottom than the ACC..sorry don't believe it.

Note to non AQ schools --Hawaii, TCU, Boise St., Houston, etc. Almost the ONLY way you will play in a BCS game is to go undefeated. Don't be bitching because you were snubbed, be bitching because your kicker missed a chipshot that held you out of a BCS game.

Boise got screwed, there is no way around it, they SHOULD be in the Sugar. What I don't get is all the butthurt over us getting over K-St or MSU or the like. We are all exchangeable at that point. If anyone wants to get all bitter, they should direct their hate to Michigan. I will say that I was stunned at us getting in, I'd almost say we don't really deserve it. But you better believe that I'll be cheering my ass off that day, not caring what anyone on a message board or at a sports "analyst" desk has to say about us being in the Sugar.

Beamer speaks about our inclusion in the BCS: "We dont have to apologize to anyone"

"I don’t think we have to apologize to anyone,” he said. “When you’re the winningest football team since 1995, I don’t think there’s any apologies necessary. When you’re the only team to have won 10 games [eight] straight [years], the only team in the country to do that, yeah, I don’t think there’s an apology necessary. When you’ve been to 19 straight bowl games, I don’t think there’s an apology necessary.”
