Must we look and validate this? When Gallo was stinking it up with all those strikeouts, I was exercising patience while he spent time to gigure it out... you should remember this. Hoping bad Odor has finally figured something out

I don’t think I’ve seen a major leaguer get nearly as many chances as Odor.

last year, it seemed like odor told rangers management before the season that he was going to be bad again and they just nodded their heads and sent him out there every single game.

I know the above isn’t how it played out, but it’s not far from the truth. Whatever it was, it was embarassing. Odor must be on a short leash.

I remember you being patient then. I just beat you to the punch as I was advocating for him when he first came up. I will be glad to let you be vice president if the club though.

I would rather be GM

during a rebuild year it is not as huge as you make it... at this point my arbitrary patience point is 30 days in a year where we could contend for playoff spot if we fill 3B but complete long shot. Would be huge turnaround but as mentioned a guy like Elvis needs a turnaround as well

Yes and Andrus had a lower OPS than Odor and made 7 million more a year.
Andrus had a far better batting average, on base percentage, fielding WAR (at a more difficult position), and overall WAR. There’s way more to the game than just slugging. Andrus wasn’t great, but Odor was flat-out unusable. He was below replacement level. It takes a player being a special kind of awful to achieve that. To put it into perspective, the corpse of Albert Pujols wasn’t even below replacement level in 2019.

If given the choice between a terrible player who actually hurts my team or a mediocre player who is a little bit better than replacement level for 7 Million more, and those are my only two options, I’m ponying up the $7 Mill extra without hesitation.

I just get tired of generalized and exaggerated statements, they are common around here and society.... everything is the "worst" if we don't like it
Totally understand and agree.

Trade that changed our franchise but for the record they did have physicals. Obviously not one as rigorous as needed. The late Durrett reported it.
Losing Richard Durrett was an absolute gut punch. You never want to see someone go before their time, but his death was especially hard to take for a lot of reasons. He was by all accounts the nicest reporter covering the Rangers, he had a beautiful young family, and he was really, really good at his job. He wasn’t a pathetic lap dog like Evan Grant or a loudmouth showman like so many other reporters these days. Just a genuine guy whose love for the game and respect from the players jumped off the page and screen with every report he did. Hadn’t thought about him in a while...

I understand the rebuilding year logic, but if a guy is struggling out there and doesn’t even resemble a major league player, a move should’ve been made.

We were probably one of the very few organizations who wouldn’t have demoted him to the minors last year given his stats and the situation.

On a side note, I wouldn’t get too hung up on WAR in general when differences are relatively close. There are too many formulas and variables that can go into those calculations. It is non-standardized. (Large differences such as a 5.0 vs 2.0 can be useful though).

Odor has always made a lot of errors and he strikes out a lot (contributing to a lower batting average) and I think that’s where the frustration lies. But he was 3rd in doubles and HR’s and 1st in RBI’s for all AL second baseman. How is that ‘flat-out unusable’?

I believe this is why (at least up until now) that Ranger management likes him and it’s because he can hit the ball hard.

Personal opinion but I prefer OPS or OPS+ ahead of WAR

the board first condemned Gallo while I advocated patience.

It may take Joey awhile to wrap his head around a new level when he gets promoted but he eventually figures it out and does well. I for one was not worried a little frustrated as to how long it was taking but not worried.

Weirdly enough I have more faith in Odor hitting abilities than Guzman

In the HR and RBI department yes...

He is unusable at the plate when the game is on the line with winning run on 2nd/3rd. You pinch hit. That is unusable.

It really has nothing to do with a rebuilding year. It has almost everything to do with an ego that won't admit a mistake, to the detriment of the team.

The rebuilding is supposedly over and yet he is still guaranteed a spot in the lineup.

Yep, WAR is simply a formula based on someone's personal opinion about how much weight different stats should have. Some like it because it is so complicated that they think of it as scientific.

I like OPS, but it has a flaw in that it treats singles and walks evenly.
