I don't know the precedents here, but I can see the NFL giving Mason a game. If they don't...okay...that will just make Garrett fume a little more.
Wasn’t there a Bengals player years ago who cheapshotted a player in the back of the head and got off because football is a violent sport, essentially; assumption of risk?

Yeah, but in that situation the team down never kneels to end the game.

You would think they would just run the clock out, but you rarely ever see the losing team do that...I can't put that on Tomlin.

That's true, but what I normally notice is the losing team will just do a half hearted running play in order to keep the clock going so they can run out the clock. Even before all the fighting broke out last night I was saying to myself "why don't they just kneel down?"

By the way, does anyone think that Tomlin bears at least a little responsibility in any of this? I mean they were down 2 TD's with under a minute to play and no timeouts, and they were around their own 10 or 15 yard line, and he's still trying to have Rudolph drop back and air it out? That seemed silly to me last night even before the melee broke out. I kept saying why don't they just take the knee and end this boring game? And as a result of Tomlin deciding to keep going for it he ended up getting Rudolph sacked (hard) twice on back to back plays, and nearly a third time when Garrett hit him late. If Tomlin just takes a knee on any of those last 3 snaps none of the fighting would ever have happened. So does anyone agree with me that Tomlin should have just conceded the game, took the knees and went to the dressing room?

No the job of a HC is to do everything in his power to have a team win. Sure the Steelers didnt have Juju or Conner and no big ben but anything is possible in today's game, especially with PI the way it is. You play to win the game! The running game wasn't there so might as well throw.

Fair enough. I was just throwing that out there as something to consider.
Oh trust me I agree on that part. I just think no matter what the coaches are an accessory but can't be blamed because they have no clue that a player would react they way they do.

Devlin "Duck" Hodges
He did started against the Chargers and won.

For how pathetic the Steelers offense is (due to all the injuries) he would be a better fit. At least in the pocket he isn't a slug with no awareness.

Wouldn't put much stock in him beating the Chargers (not saying you are) because they find ways to lose games but you are probably right he might be better

Oh no he isn't good either. If you thought Rudolph couldn't throw the ball down field neither can Hodges.
The issue is with a horrible play calling O Coordinator, no WR's, backup RB's and a poor performing O-Line the better fit is a QB who can leave the pocket on occasion and still make a play.

Should be suspended for the season. Rudolph should have a lifetime ban for pretending to be an NFL QB.

I get that, and that might even explain why Pittsburgh decided to try to air it out on the first two plays that Rudolph got sacked, but with only 14 seconds left, it was 3rd and 29, and Pitts was on their own 17 yard line with no timeout's left. The game was over even to the most optimistic of Steeler fans. That's why that final play should have just been a kneel down in my opinion.

Maybe it's considered soft to concede the game on OFC...idk.

Favre was probably the toughest guy to ever play the game. Garrett would know better than to rip his helmet off.

Vinatieri would beat the snot out of Favre. What's the the Brett love, get some wranglerless pics on your phone?

Didn't think you were calling him good either. In fact just the opposite. Next week should be interesting in Pittsburgh for sure

Tomlin knew they weren't going to win and perhaps wanted to see what Rudolph could do in a situation like this and get him some more reps throwing and perhaps get his bench wr some playing time.

Hindsight obviously they should have knelt and we wouldn't still be talking about this game but I don't have an issue with them trying to throw there

Oh I know you weren't. :suds:
Anyway they have the Bengals so hopefully they can show up.
On a side note that game might be one of the biggest sh*t shows due to the awful QB's.

After 59 minutes and 46 seconds of playing terrible I'm pretty sure Tomlin had a good idea of how well Rudolph was playing last night. Forget the fight for a minute. Pretend it never happened. It would still seem odd (to me at least) to have your starting QB out there in that situation. You already lost 5 other players to bad injuries in this game, you've lost your star QB to injury earlier in the year, and your current starter just got rocked on back to back plays, so if I'm the coach I'm thinking it's time to cut my losses and not risk getting him hurt in obvious lost cause of a game. Tomlin clearly didn't think that way. I just thought it was dumb. Just my opinion.
