They'd compete. Maybe not win it but I think they'd compete. And I agree this Bama team isn't as good as some of the previous ones you've referenced. But damn, neither are any of the other ones rated above them this year. Some of those previous Bama teams would have throttled LSU Saturday.

And somebody has to fill out the bracket. I'd bet at the end of the year they'd be as good as the other potential teams. If they played Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Penn State, Baylor, etc, I'd pick Bama to beat any of them. JMO.
Imgine this current Bama team with its lineba kers and starters we lost before game one. Imagine how good this team would be not starting 5 true freshmen on defense. I would like one year where the team we envision is the one we see for the entire season. Seems like every year lately we are asking these young kids to play right out of high school without so much as a moment of seasoning. I do think we could compete, but as you saw Saturday, our defense is short on depth due to the depletion caused by season ending injuries. Winning would be on short supply, and I would rather give our young defense a challenge in a news years six bowl than an actual playoff game.

How's that Indiana win working out for you. Did you guys petition the B1G office for their schedule, or did it just work out that way "naturally". they got 7 wins...but the opponents they've beaten are 17-49. If they played their schedule from last year this year, they would have 5 losses already...Nor would they be ranked with Texas A&M's schedule. Oh well, they get to pretend they are good for one more week anyways.

good thing we have other quality wins and don't need an Indiana win to prop us up.

We've got SEC homers having to compare Texas A&M to Indiana, thats hilarious at least!

Yup, I wish we had played Cincinnati...they're the bestest.
I get when scheduled as likely Duke would be better than Cinci but here's a flash....they aren't and Cinci is a quality win while Duke....well.....isn't.

and of course don't forget the wisky win.

I favor teams play by actual rules. Take any two teams and compare their results for this year only and favor the team with better results as a matter of rule. Everything else is irrelevant. My view is no one deserves benefit of the doubt with respect to whatever it is you would give them the benefit of the doubt about. Whether Alabama is the greatest program ever or the worst program ever, their game results this year should have the same value. If Alabama keeps getting favored in close calls because they are Alabama, it makes it easier for them to remain better and more difficult for other programs to build on their own successes.
And in all this, you keep using I, my view. Yes, we all have an opinion of what we want. My father always told me life isnt fair, when, as a child I would say thats not fair. Sounds like you didnt get the same advise and for that I am truly sorry. If your intent is to argue a teams play this year, then compare teams play this year, not one from this year versus one two years ago. UCF, IMO, is a Boise St living on a few big wins, but no consistency to make a claim to being a real deal. Wanna impress someone? Win 11 or 12 games consistent over power 5 schools each season for more than a seaon or two or three out of every 6. Try doing what Saban has done at Alabama, if you want to make a name for yourself. Until then, UCF is nothing more than a flash in the pan type team. Might be good this year and next, but cant make the grade beyond two years of consistency with any regularity. Tell me I am wrong. If you do you'll be lying.

But I only used sour grapes once. It will even out later when I use sour grapes again.

I'm glad Alabama lost. I don't have any animosity towards the Crimson Tide, but I would like to see some other teams in the playoffs. It's human nature.

Everyone who isnt a Bama fan wants this I guess. Its all good, you all may get your wish this year. Just remember that when Saban doesnt win, he usually comes back with a juggernaut. He had a better team for this seaon, unfortunately we lost a lot of great players before our season began and have been forced to play true freshment in important spots on defense. It does take a toll on a team.

I get that I don't get what I want because I want it. It is not the point. The point is only in beauty contest formats does nonsense beyond the results of the season in play determine who gets what. If Alabama has X results and another team had Y results and X beats Y because of things the Alabama program has accomplished before this year, that is stupid as hell and contrary to how sports that use actual rules operate. Any team should only have to have better results as a matter of rule than Alabama this year to place higher and advance further.

I thought LSU was the better team, but there was no way in hell I was going to bet against Saban. When Alabama loses, it's an anomaly. The season isn't over. Alabama isn't out.

Oh yeah, how could we forget Wisky. Shouldn't half of Illinois bowl payment go to them.

Speaking of it isn't basketball, when was the last time Wisconsin beat a ranked team on the road...I'm pretty sure I know who not to bet on when the 30th rolls around in Minneapolis.
