My wife and I were at Mines on October 9 of this year. Spent a few hundred on Mines stuff.

You should be proud of your daughter. Attending Mines is an eye opener on the academic side.

Do freshmen still have to take ROTC?

What is her major? (When I attended we called it option), I started out in Geophysics and quickly learned I despised Physics, and switched to blowing stuff up, aka, Mining Engineering.

The school now has 6400 students, when I attended it was 2000 students, 1800 males and 200 females.

When I attended, Physics 211 was the class that was basically the washout class. I earned a D my second time taking the class, and I was so happy.

Once she gets to her senior year, the classes seem to much easier.
Negative on the ROTC.

They still hike rocks up to the M though.

She's been called a unicorn (Math major-Computer Science)

University of Michigan has a top 5 in the country Engineering program.

Colorado of the Mines came in 58th

https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-engineering-schools/eng-rankings

And football players have tutors and study groups because the overwhelming majority couldn’t get into any college, let alone a B1G college. Add in all the time spent at practice, games, traveling, etc. It is necessary for them to survive academically and even with all of that — many still fail out.

that is grad schools.

The 50 Colleges with the Best Return on Investment | BestColleges.com

Mines students do not need to attend grad school. Going to grad school just puts michigan students further into debt.

Mines students starting salary is $67,000 and have the second highest ROI of any public school.

  • Cost: $107,100
  • 30 Year Net ROI: $1,547,000
Michigan is 34th

  • Cost: $100,600
  • 30 Year Net ROI: $901,400

I did that.

When you are a senior and go up to paint the rocks, you DRIVE up Lookout Mountain.

Oh, and you can't spell credit without a D.

OK, glad to see you are a realist. I was worried you actually thought the athlete-students were actually studying as hard as Joe and Betty average student. Being a big time college football player and still achieving a GPA of a 4.0 is amazing.

God no. Most study athletes, especially top players, where college is just a Segway to the NFL — they are taking Liberal Arts classes and the bare minimum necessary to continue playing.

Why UM is a big destination for ‘academics’ for these kids is the network of alumni it opens the door to them if they don’t make it to the NFL or for life after the NFL.

Population has little to do if a state has quality football at the high school level.
Michigan has the same population as Georgia, yet, Georgia has 40-50 blue chip recruits a year, while the state of Michigan has 5-10.

States like Louisiana and Alabama have less than half the amount of people Michigan does and they pump out 5 star recruits basically every year.

If you’d like to know why I’ve continued to say the days of Nebraska competing for national titles are long gone. Take a look at 2019. Delaware and Rhode Island had as many blue chip recruits from their state as Nebraska did. ONE.

Michigan did provide Bama’s first Heisman winner.

Not to mention the respect in the industry for Mines grads (as evident by the industry representation at Mines Career Day). My middle son earned his ME degree at Colorado St-mostly because of a Legacy Scholarship. He also had a partial scholarship to Mines. He's got a great job, but he has told us that at times he wishes he had gone there like his little sister.

And I would guess it is over 50% who wouldn’t get into schools they are attending if it weren’t for football.

Basically, every scholarship player on UM sans maybe 2 or 3 wouldn’t have got into UM.
You are the very first fan of TTUN I have ever seen admit this.

Michigan’s scholarship players have higher standard than the overwhelming majority of other D-1 programs to get approved — I think Stanford and Northwestern are the two with tougher standards for their players.

It is still NOWHERE NEAR what it takes for regular student to get accepted into the school. I’d guess it is like this everywhere, but I can’t speak with any knowledge of what it takes to get into other schools, so it is just a guess.

If UM only accepted student athletes who scored a 31 and had at least a 3.85 GPA — our football program would look like a high school team. And I could say with certainty — if UM had players on the team who put up those type of scores — they’d give them an academic scholarship and gain an extra football scholarship

Michigan will have a really good player every now and then, but a dominant player in Michigan high school football does not mean much when you get to college.
Our HS programs are brutal in our state. There are 2 or 3 solid programs and the rest is a mishmash of mediocrity.

My nephew is the QB of our local team — they finished 8-1 with their only loss by 1 point to an undefeated team. They are in Class 2 and their OL averages about 190 lbs:lol:

They are favored to win their regional for the 2nd straight year.

There is a good chance your marriage will end in divorce. If your daughter is a teenager, a male has most likely stuck some grubby fingers in there. He probably didn't wash his hands afterwards. I always wioedd my fingers on front of my friends

Nope distant memory, but i sure do remember winning national titles, we even have the crystal balls to prove it. Can you remember a time when Michigan won a national title where the torphy was real like a crystal football or even a golden football??

No, Michigan has not won a Crystal Ball, a real trophy in my lifetime, they have not won a national title in my lifetime, they got a fake claim and a piece of wood that nobody counts (much like UCF's fake title)

Nobody recognizes your bunk claim, show me the crystal ball.

Michigan has not won a national title in forever, they have a "share" which is like UCF's claim at 2017. Neither team Won, Michigans 97 games are not even fully over yet, still have time on the clock.

Sad really. Actually the typical standard is that titles started counting once the AP poll came about. Not the coaches poll. But losing Purdue (20+ years after your last title) and on your way to a sub 6 win season for the second time in a row, is bad.

Keep trying to kick us while we are down, we will be back, something michigan cant say since they've never been. You dont know any better since your program has never been able to stand apart.
