No dog in this fight but the last game you attended was 17 years ago. Your experience is literally from almost two decades ago when people attending the school now were 2-5 years old. Harley makes you an expert on things today.
I wasn't going to mention this but the ale house I was at in orlando watching this game Saturday night kindly asked the table of about 15 miami fans to leave after they started being overly loud and obnoxious after every play in the 4th quarter... they made a scene leaving

Tennessee's fans have a reputation for being affable, generous, and easily parted from our money. Some consider us as gullible hicks or rubes, think that we all swallow our vowel sounds, drink moonshine, and marry our kin. Yes, I've met an angry POS sitting amidst Vol fans at a bowl game, but he's the exception. Overall, our reputation is one of unshakable faith in our Vols, geniality, and generosity. GBO.
Was not the case when I attended a game in Knoxville. Pre-game, you are exactly right. UT fans were really cool.

Post game was completely different. They morphed into belligerent a-holes. This was in 1992. Heavy rain, and a loss. It sucked. And vol fans make sure it sucked.

Yep just like in 1980 when gator fan's threw oranges at our players and nearly hitting my dad who was there, I guess I could also judge your entire fan base based on that as well.

I lived in Gainesville from 93' through 2003 when the canes were dominating the gators during that time frame and man did I get flack for being a Cane fan especially if I wore a UM shirt in public, rude comments, got hassled at the Purple porpoise in 02' with my GF at the time right before the game to the point it almost got physical, luckily I am a bigger guy so they were too chicken to escalate it when I stood my ground. The cowards got mouthy at my girl just because of the cane shirt she was wearing it was unprovoked.

I never really had anything against the gators until I lived there and believe me I could easily carry around that same attitude towards your fan base but I know some good one's and have friends from there and guess I just have tougher skin.
it's a shame anyone should have to go through any of that but that's the chance we take when we got to rivalry games, sometimes it's wrong place at the wrong time but it's no reason to judge an entire fan base because of the acts of a few.

If I were there and had witnessed that I definitely would have intervened and then bought your dad a beer for having to deal with it and show him not everyone agrees or tolerates that type of behavior.

If some of their own fans would've intervened I would agree with you but that wasn't the case.. and I definitely would've intervened in the case of our fans hurling oranges .. that was down right dangerous for me.. and I was a kid..it definitely has left a bitter taste for me at least.. one of my brothers good friends is a Miami fan.. his dad played there in the late 50s early 60s.. I. Know not all Cane fans are like that.. but it seems to be more of a majority not the exception.. I get being mouthy too.. everyone does that.. our fans your fans.. whatever fans against opponents.. but actually getting physical is NOT OK no matter who you are rooting for.

I agree and just like you said if your dad had gotten a hold of those guys he would have beat them up and for me those guys at the porpoise harassing my girl I would have done the same if they had escalated it.

I just don't appreciate you lumping us all into a category just as I am sure you wouldn't like it if it were the other way around.

In an updated article of what you posted it says "the band director grabbed the girl going through the crowd and an identified man grabbed him in a choke hold and threw him to the ground" which I can only assume he was her husband/boyfriend and you know what? If that were the case I don't blame him for his reaction, band director had no right grabbing her. We don't know if she got caught in the middle of the band or if it was intentional but either way the band director should have never put a hand on her period!

I am done with this and made my points so you can agree or disagree.

ha, the ole "before my wife lost her leg" routine. you're digging deep into the vault.

It's not that long ago. I'm sure someone can look up when Maryland played Miami in Game 1 of a season on Labor Day.

How could 5 fans take down a band team?

Easy, it's the band. Probably the only reason it took more than a couple of fans is the tuba players can be a little difficult to knock down.

Poor soul, you are projecting. In general, life sucked for you. It's pouring down rain. Your 4th-ranked Gators just got their asses handed to them by Tennessee, and your brittle, chip-on-his-shoulder, Tennessee-hating coach is in a dark funk. Yeah, the sight of Vols fans euphoric with the victory over Tennessee-hating Spurrier's Florida team must have burned in your craw. The whole goddam world sucked for you in that moment, and to you, it was entirely the fault of all those clad in Orange & White.

Your good in my book. Some of us realize that if there weren't other university teams with fans of their own, we wouldn't have a team to cheer. It's pretty simple math.

Lol at one person defining an entire fan base. That was one of the best behaved crowds I have seen in some time especially when it comes to Gators vs Canes.
People were friendly and cordial with a little trash talk here and there. If anyone actually bothered to read the article it says a woman cut through the band trying to get by and the band director grabbed her and some dude grabbed the director in a choke hold. The man who grabbed the director and slung him to the ground was not identified but don't let those facts get in the way of your agenda defining an entire fan base.
I can tell you this if a man put a hand on my woman I would have reacted worse than that.
Never cut through the band

It's amazing how fragile you are to not even consider it is possible that UT fans were asshole. Yes, it must have been me! LMAO!

The evening before the game, I was invited into their parties. Had a lot of fun just talking football, past and present. This is the way it should be with any fan base. UT fans were very cool.

I had been to a lot of away games, so I knew how to behave accordingly. But during the game, people were yelling in our face. While walking out, we had drinks and garbage kicked at us telling us to get the f out. Just driving down the road, people were yell obscenities because of the color of my hat. Unprovoked. This is me projecting? Is there even a sliver of a chance that the UT fans we encountered were assholes?

It was a complete 180 from the very nice night before. It amazed me how much the UT fans changed.

Even FSU and UGA fans were much cooler than that.

She left it in Alaska when she had a heart attack while on a cruise ship.
Well hell...if I've gotta lose a leg and have a CLUTCHER, I hope I can do it on a cruise ship. We all should be so lucky.
