AD will not sign extension and has requested a trade.

did you read the article? They mentioned other players who had preferred destinations for a trade...none got their wish.

Lakers are ready and willing to give up the goods this time around (Paul George). Sharing an agent with Lebron is a key difference as well. Still doesn't guarantee anything, of course.

I might agree if it was up to LA, Lebron or AD......but it's not. NO plays a role here.

Sure, for one season. If AD wants LA, he will be there, just a matter of when. Teams taking a chance with a potential rental aren't going to offer as much.

Anthony Davis expected to inform teams that Lakers are his ‘preferred destination’

Sure sounds like the Lakers are preferred, and that will be announced soon...

Preferred isn't only. However, this quote from the article seems to indicate that they will be more forceful about it than PG or Kawhi.

"According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Paul and Davis plan to make it known that they will only make a long-term commitment with the Lakers:

After agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports told ESPN on Monday that he had informed the Pelicans that Davis wouldn’t sign an extension this summer and wanted a trade, multiple league sources expect the agent and star to soon deliver word throughout the league that Davis’ preferred destination is the Lakers and he’ll become a rental player until 2020 with a trade anywhere else.

It would be an attempt to depress offers in the marketplace, a way to perhaps make the Lakers’ trade package more appealing."

The key difference would be that PG and Kawhi both said that they prefer LA, but would consider other destinations. Assuming what Woj said is true, Rich Paul will be telling teams..."you're getting a 1 year rental...period".

Have to say I can't believe the NBA allows this. One of their players owns an agency that represents other players? Talk about a conflict of interest, potential tampering, etc.

I don't think Lebron actually owns the agency. I think he just helped his friends set it up and then became their first (and most important) client.

Things are definitely getting messy in NO. Davis was pretty much maintaining his value in the hopes the Pels will send him to where he wants to go (and to save face in court of public opinion. he doesn't want to get raked over the coals like Dwight for example). The franchise responded by begging the league to do an investigation, then Davis and Paul respond by lowering Davis' trade value to other teams.

Wont be alone IF they find another max guy. And suppose they aren't the best fit (like AD and Cousins)? It's AD, another stud and filler.

And? You can win with AD, another stud and filler if you are smart with the fillers.

Can you? sure. But a title? You also are forgetting Lebron might be regressing. How'd the 2 studs look in Miami when Lebron left?

True but is there any doubt he uses Paul as his messenger when he wants a player?

So, even if Lebron slows down, AD won't be carrying the load alone.
Assuming they can actually get another max level guy. Which, recent history suggests, isn't as easy as people seem to still think it is and that's before you get into the whole "having to play a part in the Lebron sideshow" thing.

Hey, maybe he just wants to go to LA and play. He's entitled to that. It'd be pretty shitty to spend the next half decade watching AD play on losing teams after having spent the first half decade of his career doing so half-way across the country. I'd much rather enjoy seeing him in conference finals making grown men cry.

Mixed feelings about this, while it is good that he is making it known he is leaving going to these lengths will reduce the price the Pelicans can demand for him. That’s the system in place though and I’m sure the fact that Levron is getting older is a factor in him pushing this sooner.

Honestly can't think of any move he made that was viewed negatively.....to me, seems like he and Stevens can do no wrong to most.
Taking just recent history, any of this ring a bell... ?
  • 2015 draft - selected Terry Rozier, generally seen as a reach at the time
  • 2016 draft - selcected Jaylen Brown, generally seen as a reach at the time
  • 2017 draft - traded #1 overall pick, selected Jayson Tatum - generally considered that Philly won this trade, at the time
  • 2017 trade - Kyrie comes to Boston - generally spoken that Cleveland won this trade, at the time

I remember them all.....don't recall Ainge getting much flak for any of it, though cannot say I paid much attention to it. I thought many thought he fleeced Philly getting Tatum AND another #1 from them.

Looks like based on mocks Brown was a bit of a reach. Rozier? Maybe but not much....and who really cares about picks in the mid-teens?

Each and every one of those, the general concensus was that Ainge and Boston made bad moves...

... we have different memories of that Philly trade... Fultz was seen as the only player on the top tier of that draft at the time... Boston was seen as losers there, not going for the top prospect.

"Really not much different"? That's crazy talk. Zubac and Williams are completely different 5's.

The key difference is defense... Williams projects as very strong defensive potential, Zubac is a defensive liability with no hope of any different in the future.

Re: height... Williams' wingspan makes up for his lack of traditional height.

Fine with agreeing to disagree on Lonzo. It's hard to believe any franchise would be super motivated to grab him when considering his entire package: shooting %'s on the court and baggage off the court.

I don't follow you on these salary points at all... N.O. would be in full rebuilding mode... that are not a serious contender to get elite players any time soon... therefore, clearing salary cap space in the near team by gaining an expiring contract is simply not a huge consideration.

These are considerations... sure... but they are not huge ones, IMO.

Why? Because New Orleans would be in full, long term rebuilding mode. Having the 3 or 4 1st round picks that Boston could easily spare is valuable to a rebuilding team regardless of anything else... the fact that the Memphis pick will in all likelihood be a strong one gives the package quality in addition to quantity.
i dont know why anyone is even mentioning Zubac. He is a non-entity. Totally irrelevant.

Averaging 19ppg and 10rpg his last 5 games and 12.2ppg and 7rpg (in just 17mpg) since Jan 2nd.....but if he were on the Cavs....you'd be pumping him up.

And if other teams think he's only a rental.....that could make the offers less enticing.
