Abortion is the ultimate black and white issue, no middle ground. This is true.

But there's many places you can fall on the immigration spectrum, from being against ANY immigrants at all to totally open borders. Almost no one sane supports either extreme. Within those poles you have everything from letting Dreamers stay (I honestly do not understand the idea of making them leave) to letting parents of kids born here stay to letting in lots of legal immigrants to giving illegals a path to citizenship to a points system for legal immigrants etc. There's a lot of room for compromise.

The idea is their home is elsewhere and they’re here ilegally. Pretty simple. Send them home and get them to come legally.

What if they are fleeing a disastrous situation in their home country, like a war or uncontrolled gang violence? In the 1930s we turned back a whole ship full of Jews from Europe....they all died when they got 'home'. One of the biggest stains in American history.

I’m still waiting for a good candidate from the constitutionalist party.

Even if you get one, they ain't getting many votes.

Where’s that line on that last sentence?Cause the left has been pushing things that are both hard in recent years
It's invisible depending on how you prioritize.

Some people, from both parties, tend to turn a blind eye and want to win at any cost.

That’s part of the problem.

Issues like illegals and abortion don’t have real middle grounds. Someone is going to get clobbered in a compromise.
Agreed.

I'm assuming you are male.

As a female, you don't have the right to tell me I have to birth my rapists baby.

That is my line in the sand on abortion.

Other than that, you knew the risks when you laid down.

I never said he didn’t have the right to his own opinion.

I just said it aaa uneducated. But he’s not alone in that. We have millions of uneducated voters.
Yeah, but that includes both you and me.

You seem completely ignorant and unaccepting to anything that isn't part of your core values.

These are hot button issues for YOU.

You can't expect people from different circumstances to see the world the same way.

A person who spent the bulk of their childhood in and out of foster care may think social services reform is a top priority.

A person who lost a family member to a opioid addiction might think drug reform is our biggest issue.

Don't get me started on the tree huggers.

The bottom line is, you nor I , get to decide how the next man or woman views the world.

That's why we live in a democracy.

You like to use the term " uneducated " to demean any opinion that is contrary to your own.

That's very closed minded.

I personally agree with you.

But, devils advocate...

Do you remember when Trump suggested Obama was a Muslim and the founder of Isis?

He can't have it both ways.

Was thinking about this when I was driving home. I don't think I've been completely clear.

I have no problem with the Dems attacking Trump personally. He's an asshole and I agree that he brings that on himself.

What I have an issue with is congress using his being an asshole as an excuse for not doing their jobs. Their job is to do what is best for the country, no matter how much of an asshole the President is.

For example,

Just about everyone of importance in the Democratic party has stated publicly that we need more border security.

Yet, they won't try to even compromise on it because it will mean Trump kept what was arguably his biggest campaign promise.

They are also lying about what the wall actually is and how effective it would be. According to John Kelly, the "wall" is actually 3 different components.

It's a combination of: barriers where they are needed, technology across the board (drones, etc.) and more people. This was the recommendation that came from the Border Patrol.

Trump (like a dumbass) keeps calling it a "wall" and a lot of people think it means a literal wall spanning the entire US/Mexico border. :L

Considering how disrespectful he has been to people - I think the democrats gave him exactly what he deserved. To get respect - you got to first treat others respectfully -

So, you think that Trump being an asshole is a good reason for them to not do their jobs?

And the Office of President deserves a certain amount of respect, regardless of who occupies it.

I went over three years without speaking to my sister because of her shit - didn't miss her one damned bit.

No offense (even though I'm about to offend you). Who gives a fuck about your issues with your sister? You 2 not speaking and you not missing her has nothing to do with the conversation. It just shows you can hold a grudge.

I got no tears for Trump when Congress doesn't do his bidding. The Reps wouldn't let Obama put a Supreme Court justice to a vote for almost a YEAR. Not just rejecting the nominee, not letting him even get a vote on someone. That goes directly against the Constitution. Once that happened it was all over for any kind of working together. That was despicable.

They weren't much better on Obamacare, he tried like hell to bring Reps to the table but they totally stonewalled him. Trump isn't getting any kind of different treatment.

It's sad that the majority of the country wants this, but the extremes of each party have control (due to the primary process).

That is also precisely why Trump makes such a bad president. And it is his fault because of the way he acts. You are right that the politicians have to do their jobs. Trouble is, if the democratic congress reps cave to what Trump wants, they could be risking their own seats.

Trump makes compromise nearly impossible because of his antics. That is why politicians don't act the way he does.

Not regardless. If a guy like Trump, who not only disrespected the office for years when Obama had it, but who also disrespects it while he sits there....if a guy like that holds the office, it's a different story. You keep treating Trump like he's just some Republican president getting stonewalled by Congress when he's a whole new thing and so the responses are new too.

But as I mentioned upthread, Congress stonewalls the president all the time. Trump is getting the same treatment Obama got.

Too fucking bad. Their job is to do what is best for the country, not get re-elected. If they do a good enough job, they won't have to worry about getting re-elected.

Blocking Trump IS them doing their jobs according to their voters (same as the Reps with Obama), and it's usually also what's best for the country.

You seem to think the President gets to just say here's what I want and if the equal branch of government (Congress) doesn't do it his way then they aren't doing it right. Why does the president outweigh Congress in your opinion?

The best presidents are the ones who know how to work with Congress to get their agenda for the most part. Trump's behavior is sabotaging any chance of that. This is pretty obvious.

And sadly, the extremes on either side mean that if you compromise you actually do lose your job when you get primaried by some radical on your left or right flank.

I'm saying that those who are bitching about Trump not getting the respect - THEY think he deserves - That he isn't getting that respect because he hasn't given it. When he starts giving more respect - then perhaps people will change their mind because even the president of the United States has an obligation to treat people better

Our country wasn't created in a fashion that allows one man to tell everyone what to do, when to do it and how to do it. It's both the president's job and both houses to work together to create solutions that work for everyone, so I have no tears for Trump either or his followers that crying because Trump isn't getting what he wants. He's the one that has shut down the government and demanded that it is his way or no way - Sorry Trump - That's not Democracy in Action - Doesn't work like that. I do think, however he would get much further if he started treated people with some respect

Sorry, but not liking someone isn't a reason to not do your job. Period.

If the rest of us decided to not do our jobs because our boss is an asshole...we wouldn't have them for very long.

And you can try to claim that Trump is being treated the same as Obama all you want. It still won't make it true.

While I don't agree with them taking that action, stonewalling a vote on a Supreme Court nominee is nothing compared to what's going on now.

As for Obamacare (which is fucking horrible and was crammed down our throats) the Republicans presented their own version and tried to compromise on it.

That's also a pretty bad thing to use since Obamacare is crap and far more expensive than we were told it would be. All Obama care has done is show that the Republicans were right to oppose it.

And literally forcing people to pay for it whether they wanted it or not. :L
