Something you should have learned in elementary school.

171. Conduct during playing
During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should render the military salute at the first note of the anthem and retain this position until the last note. When the flag is not displayed, those present should face toward the music and act in the same manner they would if the flag were displayed there.

I keep noticing the word “should”. It doesn’t appear to say “must”.

The difference between those words should have been something you learned in elementary school....

Well it sure doesn't say sit or kneel in protest now does it.

Grow up and stop insulting slaves by comparing them to multi million dollar athletes you pea brain.
I am being told to grow by a guy calling me names.

Cool.

Care to discuss the overarching overtones of rich white guys telling a largely black laborforce, that generates billions, to shut up and play football or be 'blackballed', silenced, etc? Of course y'all don't. Inmates running the prison so says Texans owner McNair.

All it says is “should”. It doesn’t say you can’t sit or kneel either.

What is the penalty if you choose not to follow it?

The US Code is directions on how you should act. They can't make it mandatory or we may as well be living in China.
You can squirm all you want, but of you really believe kneeling during the anthem is respect, there is very little help for you.

Kaepernick originally was sitting on a bench. Consulted a veteran asking what would be a respectful way to go about this.

Guess what that veteran suggested.

This has never been about respect. Dishonesty or ignorance are just excuses to make it about respect.

Your first and second sentences contradict each other.

I know some of y'all actually go to church. You can't be playing dumb and tell me kneeling is disrespectful. Cut the shit.

I'm also a veteran. Kneeling is not respectful. As a veteran I stand for his free speech, but IMO during the Anthem isn't the right time to protest. Plus free speech is only protected under public law. These protests are being conducted on NFL time = Company Time = Private time = they have no free speech protection. The NFL is against the protests, but to fucking scared to do damn thing.

The NFL needs to set the rule one way or another. Either way the protest are allowed or there not.

With all due respect:

When and where is the proper time to protest? That tends to be the point of protests to be at least somewhat disruptive, otherwise they'd be pointless. Obviously we don't want riots. But the fact the NFL fights back so hard is what attracts these protests in the first place.

I promise you MLK's protests didn't follow every law to the T either at that point in time. And some pretty wacky things that would get blasted even today never made the light of day.

March in DC. March in NY. March in Dallas. Buy some TV time and have a protest telethon.
Playing of the Anthem is to pay respect to the US, kneeling during is not paying respect. In fact it's completely opposite.

Again I'm not against their message, I just don't think protests during a moment of paying our country respect is the right time.

Its why no one holds a sit in in a cornfield in rural Iowa . Everyone here is smart enough to understand that protest, by definition, is supposed to disrupt. Thats what inspires conversation. It's only when you disagree with the message itself that the messaging becomes an issue and when you caht win an argument on merits you have to change the topic you're arguing. It's a move most guys know well as it's how women argue. We are talking about one thing and we are right so instead of admitting defeat the woman brings up some dumb shit you did 3 years ago and starts arguing that . Thats what is happening here

Our flag stands for freedom. Choosing not stand for it honors the flag and makes it mean something. Blindly standing for it turns it into a meaningless piece of cloth. That's the real disrespect.
It's not blindly standing for it. It's part of the US flag code.
Some people's children. Please don't procreate.

I’d like to see some hard facts about that. Don’t believe it, as planted.
