we'll be leading the PAC12 north division after week 1 with a 1-0 record…Washington will be in last place with a 0-1 record after getting their asses handed to em by Auburn after week 1.

Fickell was an interim coach

We'll have a decent selection to pick from after this season I'm sure

Who are you getting? By all accounts Richt, Jimbo, Dabo are staying at their respective positions.

Only person off the top of my head that think is really a viable option is Gary Patterson given that TCU is not a powerhouse.

Remember, your program is only as strong as your HC. You can't just put anyone in that position and expect the same success.

That's why a lot of fans that are outside Ohio think OSU is lucky in the sense that you went from having Tressel for a decade to having Urban Meyer who's a better coach fall into your laps.

I guess I don't consider 6 losing seasons since the 40s "luck"

Even when we've made a bad hire like John Cooper, we were getting double digit wins.

I guess I'm not really concerned who they bring in. You're not going to get anyone better than Urban, but there are plenty of good coaches out there, either proven, or up-and-coming.

They will still have access to elite talent and facilities as well as money to pay a great staff.

Bob Stoops would be a viable possibility. I don't know if he'd
come out of retirement, but he could get 8 mil a year.

OSU will always be alright. All of the benefits are in their favor.
They dominate an area that doesn't have an abundance of great
HS football players. Not when compared to other areas of the country. They'll get the most of those players plus their alumni
are retired in areas with great HS talent. Everybody knows about
OSU.

The same schools win every year. It is built in, for any number of reasons.

Here's a list of the 20 winningest programs (pct wise) all time,
in no particular order, and their record last year

Alabama 13-2 NC
N Dame 10-3
Mich 8-5
Ohio St 12-2
Okla 12-2
USC 11-3
Texas 7-6
Neb 4-8*
Penn St 11-2
Fla State 7-6
Tenn 4-8*
Georgia 13-2
LSU 9-4
Miami 10-3
Florida 4-7*
Auburn 10-4
Washington 10-3
Va Tech 9-4
Clemson 12-2
Mich St 10-3

Forget that parity crap. There is 0 parity in CFB. The same
folks win every year. They may have a rough stretch here or there
but there are some schools you can take a winning record to the bank.

12 of 20 won at least 10 ly
17 of 20 had winning records

OSU will be fine.

In fairness the media is extremely sensitive lately. If you even call them out on a spelling error in an article they flip out and blame Trump.

If Patterson did take the job it wouldn't be for financial reasons. People would be shocked at his financial package. Not public knowledge since it is a private school, but wealthy TCU alumni have taken very, very good care of Patterson financially.

He'd take it because he'd be able to have a lot more talent than he will ever be able to attract to TCU.

Agree 100%. I'd be shocked if we ever have a CFP national champion that ISN'T from your list. (Some of 'em on your list may not ever even get one.) Maybe a Wisky, UCLA, North Carolina type might catch lightening in a bottle one year and win it but it wouldn't be a perpetual thing. JMO.

This can't have a very good look if it lingers into the season.
Can they have this wrapped up, one way or another, before kickoff.???
I truly believe Ohio State wants a thorough investigation over a rushed one. Imagine if a decision was made to keep Urban Meyer and something even more damning about him and the scandal came out afterward.

Yeah that's what I'm hinting at.

Maybe they could steal an idea from the Coach Art Briles fans of a few years ago...

OSU will be fine. But look at Michigan for example, they've been hampered by consecutive bad hires and are just now starting to recover with Harbaugh (jury's still out on him turning that thing around). Also, look at UF, they're a perennial dumpster fire now. They've had 2 straight bad hires in Muschamp and McElwain, and they're in the state with arguably the most talent. On top of that, Mullen this recruiting cycle has prioritized other states than Florida in terms of recruiting and it's not looking good for them right from the start.

Ohio State, should the job become open, is one of the best jobs in CFB. But you need to make sure it's the right hire.

I just hope this doesn't end up hurting Dabo, what with him being Urban's Daddy and all

I thought he was fired for breaking the protection order.
He was fired following that incident, but not because of it. Remember that the 2015 incident was not public knowledge until after he broke the restraining order. As I see it, he was fired because his action were going to bring to light the spousal abuse incident in 2015, which had, until then, been successfully swept under the rug.

North Carolina would have to vacate their, unless of course half of the National Champion was won by students who are not athletes.
