If that is actually true and Urban actually had someone threaten her or push her into not filing charges, yeah I would absolutely support OSU cutting ties with Urban immediately and any/all legal punishment should apply.

Agreed, I'm inclined to believe it, which is why I think there's basically a 0% chance he comes back.

Here's something we both agree on. Smith is an absolute pile of shit and I hope he goes to prison soon.

I'm not defending anything here, I'm saying it's not something Urban deserves to get fired over. Suspend him for a few games without pay, sure. Taking his career because he didn't fire someone who had no charges filed against him? There's no precedent for that.
I thought that even allegations had to be reported regardless of charges are filed or not.. most state/public employees are mandatory reporters in cases of abuse.. but idk about ohio

According to Title IX, Urban's own contract, and OSU's own code of conduct, It does not matter if the party involved was charged:

According to Title IX and to his own contract paragraph 4.1(e): "known violation, shall mean a violation or allegation of a violation of Title IX that Coach is aware of or has reasonable cause is taking place or may have taken place.

per OSU's own misconduct policy: "An individual need not be charged with or convicted of a criminal offense to be found responsible for domestic violence pursuant to this policy."

In other words, Urban had an absolute obligation to report what he knew, and so did his wife as an employee of OSU. He failed, he has 100% violated his own contract language, and OSU's own code of conduct.
How would this apply when it was publicly known information though? There was a police report. If the cops were never called it would be one thing, there would be an actual cover-up/failure to report. However, this had to have been something that would've even been found in a daily docket in a newspaper.

While I think he should take some flack and probably be suspended I think we can agree he shouldn’t be fired. (Yes I know I said he should rot, I changed my mind) But this is bad.

If it's public knowledge, though, why is there a need to report it? It's already been publicly reported. That's where there's a disconnect here. If the police were never contacted and this woman was being pressured to keep quiet and not call them, and it's traced back to Urban knowing and being part of the police not being called, he should absolutely be fired on the spot.

I'm sure Gene Smith is telling Urban Meyer right now that if Brett McMurphy said it must be true.

It probably would be better for him if he did. At this point, this appears to be a losing battle. My guess is they are discussing an agreement to "mutually part ways"

You are 100% correct.

Urban's contract, and OSU's own code of conduct require any knowledge of sexual misconduct be reported. The fact that the attacker was not charged does not factor in, according to the code of conduct.

It is bad. And I'm as guilty of everyone else of not putting enough emphasis on the fact that this woman was beaten. I'm glad that it's at least over for her and I hope they prosecute Smith to the fullest extent of the law and he actually does rot in prison.

Then why did he lie about 2015?

Well we don't know he did yet, as nothing has actually come out proving it, hence the need for an investigation I suppose.

Why would he lie? I honestly don't know. I'm looking forward to having all of the facts come out.

Only thing I can think of is that he wanted to do a good deed for Earle Bruce, who gave Urban his start. And there's a possibility Bruce was in his ear, to do Smith a solid(favor).

I find it extremely unlikely that his wife knew, had received pictures of the abuse in 2015, and did not tell Urban. You can pretty much take that to the bank.

I agree that this should play out, and no doubt more information will come out as this goes on, but I don't see any way he survives this. The PR hit alone in keeping him would be catastrophic, and no doubt invite the NCAA into the mix, which no one wants.

But knowing this had happened in the past, knowing his wife 100% knew as proven by the text messages released, it is reasonable to believe that he knew, and was in violation of the OSU code of conduct, and his own contract, as well as Title IX.

But, if anyone could survive this outside of Saban.....it's Urban.
