Hope someone can take a shot at this. Rules have changed over the years and I am not up on the current state. The general idea is one player must line up first then the other before the puck is dropped. Kind of like the O linemen in football. If the player does not set himself he gets waved out.

I always thought it was one guy jumped the gun. As for Cherry I never saw him as a guy with his heart in the right place. Trashing players based on nothing more than their national origin is not having your heart in the right place IMO.

In the first I would say 10 years of the show, I thought Grapes provided some pretty good insight from a coaching and tactical perspective, but now he's just a caricature who is just all about loud noises and being xenophobic.

Disclaimer: This is from the point of view of a coach who had a heated discussion with a ref during a high school game intermission on this point when mine got tossed. Don't imagine the NHL rules are terribly different.

The rule is the defensive zone center (away team center at center ice) has to be set and put his stick down first before the puck drops. Both Centers need to have their feet outside the hash marks around the dot, and all other player have to be outside their own marks. Plus there is no contact allowed prior to the puck drop. Any creeping of any of that is completely at the linesman's discretion.

For a player taking a faceoff, obviously having your stick flat on the ice is a disadvantage so players try to cheat and put their stick down and lift it quick when they feel the linesman's hand moves. And if the linesman is a bit of a dick, it catches a guy out.

My situation was we were the attacking team, and my center let the other guy get his stick down and then he put his down and pushed the defensive center's arms away with his and leaned on him. My guy got tossed, we lost the draw and they rushed up and scored. I was, as the Russians say "don't heppy".

This is the biggest faceoff cheat to this day.

“It’s going to have a Wheel of Fortune motif to it,”

The Category is "dirty S.O.B.s" See if you can solve the puzzle:

T_m Wils_n

Matt Cooke:noidea:

They remind me of each other players that can be good hockey players, but want to take that unnecessary check..

wilson IS a good hockey player.

i don't like all of tom wilson's hits, but this hockey team would not be where it is without him. all those times we failed in the playoffs, and now we're outperforming expectations. To me, the biggest difference is Tom Wilson stepping up to take a leadership role.

Let me rephrase that because I wasn't trying to say Wilson is not a good hockey player. What I was saying is when he plays hockey he is a good player, but the unnecessary checks take away from that.
