I'm actually allergic to cats.

We actually rescue dogs. Our 7.5 y/o yellow lab Bogey had cancer in his jaw. we had him operated on.
They ended up taking a piece of his jaw out. It really has not affected him. He still runs around like a puppy. Loves swimming and chasing anything we'll throw for him just like most labs.

His only issue is his tongue hangs out and he slops water all over the house when he drinks.

We were in a similar boat. We opted to take him to a doggy day care twice a week. He would play so hard he'd be knocked out the next day. On other days we have a private community beach. We'd take him down there and throw a toy for him. He'd wear himself out.

That’s good to hear that you’re thinking about it. So many parents get the dog to make the kids happy then once the novelty wears off it becomes a chore. Nobody wins in that situation.
